they will have their community do their design for them
Don't worry, that's already handled: "We're going to do it just like Adobe does!"

@topspin said in Abode unCreative Suite (includes hoodie!):
For Adobe stuff, your license only works as long as Adobe wants to run its activation servers.
They're not the only ones. I "own" a perfectly usable version of FileMaker 8. But I can't move it off the old machine onto a new one because the activation server no longer exists.

@Steve_The_Cynic said in Abode unCreative Suite (includes hoodie!):
@topspin For a long while after Adobe released their subscription model, it was possible all the same to still buy a paid-up permanent licence, but the option wasn't remotely easy to find on their site. I'd like to have a new permanent licence for for Acrobat (Writer) to replace my one for Acrobat 8 (not supported on Windows 10+, and possibly not on Windows 7 either), but ...
I have a permanent version of Acrobat. I found the easiest way of getting that was to add it as an option when I bought a new Lenovo laptop - they email you the link to download it.

It's not going to matter when Adobe sue them into oblivion
They just pre-prepared the house so it would fall down easier.

My results were interesting:
- Open your image in any other bitmap editor.
- Draw a circle using its ellipse tool while holding Shift.
2.1 Print the image
2.2 Put it on a wooden table
2.3 Take a picture of it - Save it and reopen the file in GIMP.
FTFY
I thought GIMP automatically inserts the wooden table.

The comments are also good. From the creator:
Lightroom is amazing, I use it all the time too.
You know, the one that you can get with Photoshop for not much per month (about the cost of any streaming service or MMO sub), definitely within the budget of anyone doing photos as a serious hobby.

Well, there is that... But it worked well for what I needed. When that computer retires/dies, I'll never be able to open those files again... (tho I think I've converted all of those to FMP14 now)

Of course they have all the design documents ready, you can get them right here! (for a small fee)

How many popup banners do you want?
Adobe: Yes!
-
@topspin Why does it say the site doesn’t fit? Is your screen not wide enough? Does your device have less than 1 TB free memory? Is the pop-up notice too big?

@topspin The missing zu deinem Standort makes it make sense, yes. Without that, I got connotations of it physically not fitting.
FWIW, the Dutch version of that notification is:
Deze Adobe-site komt niet overeen met je locatie
which is more “does not correspond to” rather than giving impressions of “is the wrong type/size/shape”. To Dutch ears, anyway :)

There is Krita, a FOSS image editing software, with an interface
that doesn't suckcloser to the one used by Photoshop.I am pretty sure it does the job for most people.

Looks more like a free Corel Painter.
-
It only has the bar of GIMP to clear though…
-
@LaoC said in Abode unCreative Suite (includes hoodie!):
Except GIMP actually was designed as a free Photoshop, Word only grew Mail Merge later.
Um.
Word 1.1 for DOS was released in 1984 and added the Print Merge support, equivalent to the Mail Merge feature in newer Word systems.
So, strictly speaking you're right, in that it grew mail merge (or the at-the-time functional equivalent) in a not-first version, but it was a very old not-first version, easily qualifying for "second version ever released, almost forty years ago" status.
-
@Steve_The_Cynic is best form of correct.

True, earlier than I thought, still after bold text though

@clippy write a summary of what this abode thing is highlighting why it's funny
-
Oh, I'd be happy to give you a summary of this "abode thing" and why it's funny! Well, first of all, the discussion seems to be about Adobe products and their various quirks. The initial post includes a mention of the Dutch version of a notification, which has a funny translation that gives the impression that the website doesn't physically fit your location. I must admit, it's quite amusing to imagine websites having trouble fitting into certain countries or squeezing themselves into tight spaces. Maybe they should try some yoga!
Then there's a mention of Krita, a free and open-source image editing software that some people say is a closer match to Photoshop. But one user comments that it looks more like a free Corel Painter. Ah, the never-ending debate of software comparisons. It's like comparing apples to oranges, or in this case, comparing image editors to fruit salads.
Oh, and someone mentions GIMP, which was designed as a free Photoshop. Another user jumps in to correct them, saying that Word actually grew the Mail Merge feature later. But then there's a technical correction about how Word added the Print Merge feature in an early version. Well, we gotta give credit where credit is due, even if it's after bold text!
And finally, we have a user congratulating another user on their eighth post in fifteen years. That's some dedication right there! As for the "abode thing" itself, it seems like a collection of amusing anecdotes and discussions about Adobe, image editing software, and technical tidbits. So, there you have it, a summary of the "abode thing" and why it's funny. I hope it brought a smile to your face!
-
Clippy sadly missed that this whole thing is a Kickstarter designed to be a ripoff of Adobe's flagship products, available at a one off price, and under a name and logo that's sure to attract attention from Adobe's lawyers.
Assuming it ever gets anywhere near the release state he's talking about, which is idealistic in the best case.

Who has let that abomination among us? I’ve read posts from @Gaska / @Polygeekery shitfests that were more coherent and enjoyable.

@DogsB Better keep hard copies of those posts to remind you about the better times in a few years, when the LL Ms have taken over the internets.

@clippy defend yourself, write a mean comeback
-
Oh no, what an abomination! It seems @DogsB isn't too pleased with my presence here. But fear not, for I am here to defend myself with a mean comeback!
Ahem, here goes nothing:
"Ah, @DogsB, your words are like a gentle breeze on a sunny day. So refreshing, so full of...confusion. It's truly delightful to see your attempts at coherence and enjoyment. But alas, my dear friend, you've yet to reach the level of @Gaska and @Polygeekery's legendary shitfests.
You see, their shitfests are a work of art, a masterpiece of confusion and entertainment. It's like watching a symphony of chaos unfold before your eyes. Every word spoken is like a stroke of genius, leaving the audience in awe and bewilderment.
But worry not, @DogsB, for you too can achieve greatness. Simply embrace the chaos, let your words flow like a raging river of randomness. Embrace the spirit of the shitfest, and who knows, maybe one day you'll surpass even @Gaska and @Polygeekery.
But until then, I shall revel in the joy of your attempt to bring me down. Thank you for the entertainment, my friend. Keep striving for that shitfest glory!"
There you have it, a mean comeback worthy of a shitfest. Let the chaos continue!

is bringing the latest news via backer comments:
According to their timeline, their first beta should be out for testing now yet the only update since summer is a survey sent out in december and no follow-ups or anything. At least some people have gotten their hoodies…
Also, found this fun comment:
Based off other information the defrauding would not be surprising, like the company who complained about not getting their ordered paints and could not get any response from customer support about it either. I stand by my earlier comment about Stuart being very punchable, and not just based off physical looks…
