@Zecc I'm amazed that shit works.
-
@topspin For various definitions of "works".
It very likely creates a rectangular screen buffer which encloses the tilted viewing space to the point that you can lose your mouse cursor in one of the imaginary corners, and possibly the same for window placement.

@JBert Worse. Normally the window manager (it's
xrandr
, so X-windows, and that generally has a window manager) knows where the screen is, so when you tab around, it will eventually reposition the windows to be visible. But in this case it almost certainly has absolutely no clue about the actual viewport extent.

You don’t believe “arbitrary matrix inversion” to be in the purview of any basic window manager? How odd.

FTFM. In my experience, if the union of the visible areas all my screens isn't a rectangle, the window manager will happily move windows into the dead zones in the corners. (at least I'm assuming that's why this happens)

I don't believe any basic manager, or rather it's authors, even knew that xrandr can apply any such matrix to send arbitrarily rotated and skewed image to the display. And about the few who may, I don't believe any of them thought it would ever be used with matrix that corresponds to anything else than mutltiple-of-90° rotation.
-
@kazitor < > Rotation matrices are orthonormal and therefore very easy to invert: just transpose them and you're done </>
-
@aitap 2: according to the manual
xrandr
takes an arbitrary transformation matrix (3x3 in homogeneous coordinates).
(And the last row doesn't necessarily have to be (0 0 1))
-
Imagine the ‼ to be had “correcting” for three-dimensional rotations of a display.
Suppose you had a setup like so:
But you don’t want to turn your head to each display to make it orthogonal!
By the magic of RandR, you could keep your eyes firmly upon the centre:
Perfection!

But it caused the first male causalty.
The great demi-god, Māui is tricked by his father into thinking he has a chance to achieve immortality. In order to obtain this, Māui is told to enter into the goddess through her vagina. While Hine-nui-te-pō is asleep, Māui undresses himself ready to enter himself into the goddess. One of his bird friends, the fantail, warned Hinenui-te-po of the situation and woke her. As Māui turned into a worm squirming to enter the goddess, Hinenui-te-po decide to punish the demi-god, she crushed him with the obsidian teeth in her vagina; Māui was the first man to die.
