Status: Just looked at external keyboards to convert my MacBook Air into a desktop workstation. Holy shit , why are these things so expensive?!
Anyone have any experience with using a normal PC keyboard with a Mac?
Adding to the other comments: you can go into the Keyboard Preferences and swap what the Windows and Alt keys do if you'd rather have the normal layout.

Yes I use my Macbook with a normal Windows keyboard every day. Works fine.

But that's not a place of interest key, it's more of a "where you left it" key

Status: A bit hesitant to try a snack I got as part of an "Asian snack box" I got. The snack in question is a bag of potato chips with a picture of a dog on the front:
What flavor are they? According to the bag:
And according to Google Translate, the front of the bag apparently also says "American Cola" flavored.
When I opened the bag so I could squish it down to better get a picture, it smelled strongly of stale discount grocery store brand cola. After getting the air out, the bag more open and letting it sit a few minutes, the smell is mostly gone and the chips very faintly taste of that, but mostly just taste like lower quality potato chips.
At least they're better than the "Extra Strength Matcha Milk Candy" I tried before this. That one started out as "I can't tell the flavor but I don't think I like it" to "is the flavor getting worse?" to "if I don't spit this out now, I'm going to throw up" and that was just one Life Savers sized candy out of the pack of 10 I got.

Over here, there's sites tracking emergency service callouts. But police only rarely shows up, and even half the time when I hear fire engines pass there's nothing on there.

Status: 07:00. Three hours to shower and dress (I did a dumb and put the clothes I need for today in the car last night), pack up the rest of the stuff in my hotel room, including food and my computer, put them in the car, and drive to my new house to meet the landlord and get the keys.
And find the power cord for my thermoelectric cooler, which I'll need for the drive from CA next week, as well as transporting food to my house this morning.

...Or maybe, when the GPS unis says "No Fix", it means just that. Nevermind if it got the date and time right. Looks like it only needs one satellite for that. Whereas a location fix needs two and a half.
Whew... I'm still in Finland. Good.
...Wait. ...Finland. ...CoVid-19. ...**** ...Maybe I'd rather be in SA after all.

The fire station in my hometown used to have a pet dalmatian - so I figured it might be fire-related.

We were just informed yesterday that we should plan on working from home for the next 2 weeks unless it's absolutely necessary to come in. Maybe I should have carried my nice 27" 4K monitor home with me... Not sure where I'd put it tho - my desk is a little cluttered with my 2 23" ones. (I'll shortly replug one of those monitors into my work laptop)
-
I just got the official email that we should work from home as much as possible.
I mean, I already was doing that, but for a couple weeks it'll be 100%!
-
@error all we got is that we should evaluate our ability to work from home. They really don't want us to.

WTFHelpdesk is graciously allowing 50% of each helpdesk we have to work from home, starting Monday, because they don't want to "potentially overstress the remote work systems". I.E. They either don't have enough VPN licenses for everyone or they haven't bothered load-testing the VPN servers and are worried they'll fall over if everyone starts working from home at once.
And I'm just finding out TODAY (i.e. 2 days after this was decided upon) that my position isn't technically included on this, so I'm still expected to be in the office come Monday. Depending on what happens with my daughter's school, I may just tell them "fuck off" and WFH anyway.

@error looks like you forgot it again in the trunk...
As to my problem, my approach to such cases is: first rebuild the offending file to check it's not a random glitch. Then delete the object files from the same directory and rebuild. Then do a
make clean
and rebuild the whole solution without trying to search any further what's causing it.If it still fails, then the next step is to start thinking.
EDIT: it seems I'll need to think now shudders. Or maybe I'll just fire an email to the dev responsible of the failing module and wait.

But then, tax is complicated and I have no clue, so maybe it doesn’t work.I'm pretty sure that it does not work for impermanent home office. I can deduct almost all expenses for my PC just fine but that's because my school does not provide me with a workstation I can work at anytime (we do have some but only about 30 for 120 teachers).
On the other hand, it might work but you'll definitely need a statement from your employer that home office is mandatory and that they're not able (or willing) to provide the necessary tools to do home office. In that case you could also put part of your ISP and telephone costs on your tax deduction.

Yeah, I figured it'd be complicated (and it seems like I have to depreciate over 3 years).
I do have a work provided laptop, but I don't want to work on that 39 hours a week.

Plug in a monitor and keyboard and make like a desktop? Or is the laptop just underpowered for full time use?
-
Status: once again too indecisive and picky to actually buy anything.
Looked at different keyboards and the results ranged from meh to terrible. The Logitech G series my coworker has and loves looks pretty awesome and has nice features, but the one I tried felt awfully squishy (I guess there's different key types/models, but I only saw one in the store, and I obviously can't try them online). There were a few other brands that had the cherry keyboard color designation (which I didn't look up while trying), but none of those I tried were any good. Even laptop chiclet keyboards feel better. Next, the Razer gaming shit had some "optical" thing, which was bad, the standard "green" mechanical keys ("tactile and clicky") which reads like it's good but was also pretty meh, and the "yellow" "linear and silent" ones. The "tactile and silent" was nowhere to be found, but presumably no better than green. But good lord, those linear ones are horrible. I was about to throw up from my hands typing on that.
Who the fuck thought linear keys are a good idea? Oh, gamers like that, you say? Yeah, guess that just reinforces my prejudices.
And then I found a single one that I actually liked, also a Razer, but with combined mechanical/membrane keys. That had perfect tactile feeling, better than the mechanical or rubber ones, just a bit loud. But I have reservations about buying some gamer keyboard with RGB bullshit.

No, that is actually the plan (see above for my keyboard shopping woes). I just figured I could use an excuse to buy a PC again. I haven't owned one in years.
