@Dragoon “Net zero” means you can offset the emissions with something else.
“Farting cows” is not “cows”. Don’t ask me how.
Maybe change their diet, genetically engineer them not to fart, I don’t know (ask all those kids in the churches ) . Or, as above, just offset their emissions with something else.Cows aren't supposed to fart. When they eat grass everything is dandy. But soybeans are far cheaper and so they get fed to cows and so the cows fart.
Erm, as someone who grew up on a cattle farm...no. Cows fart. Cows always fart.
Ah, but grass farts only cause warming on Venus, and not on Earth like soy farts. :AOC:

Foldable phones are all the rage nowadays
Are they?
Now, Sharp also seems to be looking to get into the foldable market phone
Is Sharp even into the normal mobile phone?
-
@loopback0 Sharp makes lots of phones, but I think they're exclusive to Japan. IIRC they were pretty early on some of the modern smartphone trends like bezelless designs

There you wouldn't let your dog out by night or the drop bears would get it (just read the linked article for the details).

@Bulb I'm going to have to ask you for some sources for that. Googling for either "stabilizer foreplane" or "787 elevator trim" give me jack all.
My understanding of the issue is based on this:
Trim tabs are small surfaces connected to the trailing edge of a larger control surface on a boat or aircraft, used to control the trim of the controls, i.e. to counteract hydro- or aerodynamic forces and stabilise the boat or aircraft in a particular desired attitude without the need for the operator to constantly apply a control force. This is done by adjusting the angle of the tab relative to the larger surface.
And then there is a nice picture of a rudder-in-a-rudder and elevator-in-an-elevator, which are supposedly the trim tabs. And which I assume are present on larger planes as well, and which would be controlled by the manual wheel.
Of course, moving a tab as small as it is in the picture would not take much force, so I imagine that the 787's version is a few square meters in size. But, if you have a better picture of the specific arrangement on the 787, I'd be most pleased to see it.

What kind of dogs do Australians have anyway? I mean, I assume that they have some kind of dogs, from hearing some jokes about Australia with dogs in them.
But the yapper I used to have would find a snake and get bit within 5 minutes of entering the country. (He was very good at finding shit he wasn't supposed to, but very bad at keeping whatever it was at paw's length.)Edit:
gogs -> dogs

On a serious note, while cows fart (all animals do, from gerbils to whales) the amount that they fart depends on the composition of the microbial population of their intestine, which in turn depends a lot on what they're fed. (It's the same for people; everyone knows what beans and cabbage do.) It is therefore reasonable to try to figure out diets for cows that reduce the level of farting without compromising the animal's health.

Chihuahuas don't have long limbs; being at paw's length from a venomous snake is still pretty close for them!

Given the grammar of the sentence, I think "They eat babys' [plural noun]" is more appropriate.

Yes, those are trim tabs. They adjust the position in which the control surface is balanced by aerodynamic forces and mechanical leverage. On some aircraft the control column is instead connected to the tabs (they are called servo tabs in that case) and the main control surface is free floating (IIRC it's called fly-by-fly).
@acrow said in In other news today...:
And which I assume are present on larger planes as well, and which would be controlled by the manual wheel.
No, they are not:
- The trim range of the elevator on a jet transport aircraft needs to be rather large, and while changing camber via moving elevator produces a lot of lift, it also produces considerable drag. To keep this drag down, almost all jet aircraft trim by moving the stabilizer foreplane. Supersonic fighters, which need even bigger trim range, and a few transport jets (MD-11, I think) have a stabilator (all-moving stabilizer without separate elevator) instead.
- Hydraulically boosted controls don't transmit the forces back anyway, so trim for rudder and ailerons (and stabilator) can be provided by introducing an offset in the feel and centering unit that has to be there (note that even cars have these, because power steering works the same way and also does not transmit back the forces when the engine is running).

But, if you have a better picture of the specific arrangement on the 787, I'd be most pleased to see it.
This one is from E170, but it looks basically the same on most jet transport aircraft:

First, the prices are in fake-dollars, so take 20% off for US-bucks.
Second, Canada is one of the few countries in the world that can make the US's telcom industry look good. Those are monthly prices.

It's a cultural thing. Jacking off a bad habit, shameful behavior, and will make you blind. And doing it in a public facility, with evidence in case of success, is almost the same as doing it publicly. The Chinese are very conscious of their public image. Family's face, you know?
But, getting stuff mechanically extracted by a machine in a hospital? Now, that's just a medical procedure. The line's about as thin as a bottle of water under the jew trucker's seat on a sabbath run, but there you have it.
