That's old-hat. They did that several times already.

Status: Poland 1-0 Japan. At the same time, there was a Colombia-Senegal match, and Senegal was losing 1-0 too, so they would be tied with Japan both in points and in goal difference. And the rules are that in case of tie in both points and goal difference, the team with less cards received during the tournament advances. And Japan had 1 yellow card less than Senegal, and they wanted to keep it at that more than they wanted to score a goal. Leading to the most boring last 10 minutes I've ever seen.

At a dog show a couple weeks ago, the phone's weather app said 73 and sunny. It was about 55 and drizzling (well, CA coastal fog - there's not much difference)

All the previous disk activity was asynchronous. That last bit is the filesystem sync command, where it waits for confirmation that all those 855 items have actually been committed to disk.

If that takes more than 30 minutes, your disk write buffer must be too big

I've had that canceling dialog get permanently hosed. Of course, my explorer shell crashes (hangs) at least several times a day. (But only on my work PC)

Sounds like the difference between the official weather station at the airport (which isn't even in SF) and, maybe, Golden Gate Park.

AccuWeather (the phone's default provider) was wrong.
Weather Underground nailed it.

It's been 3 yrs. I'm due for an upgrade. 32G of memory, 1T SSD, hehehe. In other words, not the standard issue laptop from IT. (Hey, 95% of the company gets MacBookPros - so mine is still cheaper!)

Yep, that was failing. Looks like it stores the invalid 24:00:00 time internally but lies to the Watch window for some reason. Then
ToString()
does do a range check and explodes at that point. The24
came from a loop that was off-by-one so I was just looking at the Watch and wondering why the hell I was getting an Exception if everything looked perfectly valid.

Why do online games today keep adding new characters? Back in my day we just added new weapons for the characters to use.

Easier to throw some new character art assets in than to figure out how to balance a bunch of weapons so that the new thing might be useful but not stupidly overpowered?

@magus said in The Official Status Thread:
Not even slightly used to using a vertical mouse.
I needed a new mouse (buttons on the old one were wearing out), so I went to Fry's last night and decided on one of those. In fact, I bought two of them. They had a left-handed version; I think it's the only left-handed ergonomic mouse iv ever seen. Since they are very much not ambidextrous, so I can't switch hands while using it, and I've gotten accustomed to a right-handed work environment at home (because gaming) and a left-handed environment at work, I bought a right-handed one to replace my worn-out one at home and a left-handed one to replace my very non-ergonomic mouse at work.
There are a few things I'm not entirely happy about. The jury is still out on whether it's really more comfortable. They're billed as gaming mice, so they have pointless multicolored LEDs; fortunately, it requires their proprietary driver to enable them, which I have emphatically not installed. The left-handed one is available wired USB only (at least that's all they had at Fry's), so it's less convenient to take it to meetings, and if I want to take the old, generic, wireless mouse, the buttons are physically swapped on the left-handed one, so no matter which way I set the generic MS mouse driver, the two mice work oppositely. There may be a way to swap only the left-handed mouse in its proprietary driver, but I'm not installing it to find out.
What's up with autocomplete? It's autocompleted "left-handed" a bunch of times in this post, and then all of a sudden, it decides not to offer it? Why would you do that?
-
For some reason this made me think of Network, the ending narration which was like "and this was the story of the first man killed live on television, as a ploy to gain ratings". (Or whatever.)
-
@hardwaregeek said in The Official Status Thread:
Why would you do that?
Too much text in the box, it starts giving up?
-
@hardwaregeek that sounds obnoxious. This one is quite good, and I wanted it to be wired. Gaming with one of these would take a LOT of getting used to... but this one has a DPI button, no LEDs, and generally seems sensible, with no custom driver.
