FB thinks this is a good ad to show me:
-
@boomzilla just shows they know you better than you know yourself.
-
@boomzilla Had to look twice. I thought those were a pair of tiny speakers built into the sole to "keep you dancing anywhere" (just pair your pair with the app on your phone). Because people who play muzak on their phone speakers while in public are not annoying enough.

We should launch a stackoverflow lookalike and fill it with frontpage material.

I just saw an ad, in a place where I commonly see targeted ads, for breast pumps.
Yes, I'm newly married. Yes, we want kids.
No, I'm reasonably confident that there isn't a little one on the way quite yet. No, even if my wife was pregnant, I am not the one that they should be advertising breast pumps to!
(Share your horrible ad targeting stories here...)
Maybe it's time to have a talk with your wife.

Not that I'm incompetent or anything, but I'm realllly curious why it thinks I'm so interested in childcare.

Just all the things needed to execute it, supplies, etc. So, I'm apparently not interested in obtaining care for my child, but intensely interested in caring for it myself?

There are adults who are interested in that for reasons other than childcare, but that's a topic for @error's thread .

So I was just on Pinterest looking at a recipe that my wife sent me because she wants me to make it for dinner.
Pinterest thinks I have four interests:
-
Recipes that you cook in the kitchen that my wife sends me and I reply with "Let's do it" because their UI gives me a button to automatically proposition her.
-
Recipes for smoking meat, which I look up on my own.
-
Woodworking/furniture building content, which I mostly look up on my own, although sometimes my wife sends me stuff she wants me to build, in which case I use the "Let's do it" button in the UI. See above.
-
Shit that other people who are interested in The Kind Of Recipes My Wife Likes are interested in, which is just them guessing and doing a bad job of it.
Anyway, it asked me to take a survey for one of their advertisers and I said OK because I want more content from categories 1-3 and less from category 4.
The first question is "What brands of cat food are you aware of?" and gives me a multiple choice list. The second question is what cat food ads I've seen in Pinterest in the past week, with the same options. Questions 3-6 are about my opinion of a specific brand of cat food.
Question 7 is "How many cats do you own?" with the options "Zero", "One", or "Two or more".
I don't have any cats. Shouldn't that have been the first question?
-
-
@GuyWhoKilledBear said in Targeted advertising fail:

No.
Because now you know CatFood TM, and you will re-consider your catlessness.
And then you'll purr-chase lots of CatFood TM.

@Tsaukpaetra but I must say, this NIO EP9 looks sweet.
Unfortunately they cost $3 million apiece, there's only 16 of them ever made, and they aren't even street legal.
