Fuck this toaster

Nodebb keeps annoying me with a toaster about my connection instead of just reconnecting.

THIS IS THE THING YOU PEOPLE ASKED FOR

Wait, I saw a toaster about something similar to that last night, but it seemed to reconnect itself just fine and went away.

Came expecting a McChicken sandwich. Got this thread instead... :(

Lately, it seems so.

Sorry. But, rest assured, that permanent memory will be part of a key later on, so that's a good thing!
-
I'd like it to auto connect but I like to know when the connection broke and the tick up top wasn't reliable about appearing or in its accuracy.

I never asked for this.
I'm not people. =(
...
tho srsly: what is the toaster supposed to do? Is it triggering troubleshooting logs anywhere?

Be more visible than the tiny little spinny thing. We all can tell when NodeBB loses connection: shit just doesn't post, shit doesn't load, you're staring at blankness and it's frustrating as hell. There's a teeeny tiny spinner in the top bar that indicates that it's trying to reconnect, but a lot of the time you don't see it. How the hell are you supposed to know how long it's been? If something's seriously wrong or just a glitch? If it's safe to close your browser?
-
@Yamikuronue said in Fuck this toaster:

Is that what the fucking thing was?
I assumed it was standard Web-3.0 "trying to load a page, broke, and I don't know how to clear my spinner because lol" piece of crap. Or a "I'm finished doing something, but broke, and forgot to clear my spinner lol".
In either case, I adblocked it months ago because it was annoying.
-
Toasters are great. Toasters are fine.
Except when they try to be clever, get in the way or hang about eons after they're no longer welcome. WTF thought it was a good idea to pop them up top left of the screen / window? They are like some modal with the arrogance and self righteousness that comes with a veneer of legitimacy and importance.
Bottom left suits me fine. Close enough to make their presence felt, far enough that I don't have to read them so they can be safely ignored with all the contempt they deserve.
Edit
Did I say Top left and Bottom Left. Never could get the hange of the left / right thing. I meant top right and bottom right respectively. Thanks @Maciejasjmj for making me see that

Your stupid site doesn't work!
What, my fault? I'm just using a years-old browser and I've applied custom scripts and stylesheets to it and blocked many of the resources it requires. That shouldn't affect anything at all!

But not on mobile, where the problem happens more often.
-
@loose said in Fuck this toaster:

They pop in bottom right to me. Are you, perchance, holding your phone upside down?
-
@Maciejasjmj I'm having a rant at toasters in general. The ones here (that I have observed) behave themselves (according to my rules) and are nice, calming, pastel colours.

Can we, like... Only get it if it fails two connection checks in a row or something?

Also fuck all toasters on mobile when you're trying to type a message and the toaster covers up the entire message input field so if you try to click somewhere just after a toaster pops up, it takes you to wherever that notification leads and you have to go back and reopen your message.

I think it was the last time someone complained about/questioned the toaster.

What, my fault? I'm just using a years-old browser and I've applied custom scripts and stylesheets to it and blocked many of the resources it requires. That shouldn't affect anything at all!Wow, you're right! NodeBB's shitty coding of a shitty implementation of a shitty feature that didn't work and had shitty UI/UX is totally FF22's fault.
That's why it was first brought up as a shitty feature by people who don't use FF22.
You're a genius.

We're on the same side here; NodBaby is broken shit. I just find it amusing that you have a configuration and expect it to be supported.
You're a genius.
The new positive affirmation Lorne Kates is going to take some getting used to.

socket.io connection attempts time out after 20 seconds. If you want the toaster that tells you why your "submit post" button isn't working to pop up 40 seconds after it would be useful, I'm sure that can be arranged, but...

The initial connection attempt and possible "everything went quiet when I said something" response, maybe, but the immediate "Holy crap the Internet disappeared and the browser yoinked my socket from right under me!" happens immediately.

Smash TV is cool

@aliceif I bloody loved that game.
Wasn't so good on the Master System, where the two button system meant you could only shoot forwards and backwards, not all four directions
-
@Fox said in Fuck this toaster:

You'd have got it inb4, but you had to wait for the toaster to pop up…
-
@ben_lubar no, no. I want the site to just work, and not show me any toaster.
And this shit keeps blinking much more than one each 20s when I am reading it and not submitting stuff.

cite any time I insisted FF22 be supported vs. "this is broken shit for everyone and/or a really bad design."

I watched a YouTube thing once about how the game was designed to be such an unbeatable quarter muncher that they didn't bother making an ending in the original edition.
-
@Tsaukpaetra said in Fuck this toaster:

My dislike stems from the fact that on mobile (which is mostly where I TDWTF these days), the toast pops up every time the tab loses focus, whether it's because I look at another tab, or another app, or the phone locks itself. It would be nice if there a delay of, say, a couple of seconds after the tab regains focus for the connection to be restored before deciding something is broken. It would be more useful if it weren't crying wolf all the time.
-
I've posted this here, rather than in more appropriate threads...
because:
"...Jeff Jarmoc, head of security for global business service Salesforce, pointed out that internet infrastructure is supposed to be more robust. 'In a relatively short time we've taken a system built to resist destruction by nuclear weapons and made it vulnerable to toasters,' he tweeted..."

It's a fucking toaster. It's never useful.
If the only time it appeared was right after Submit had been clicked unsuccessfully, I might be persuaded to moderate that stance a little.
