)Status: Finding out why a program takes 17 seconds to save its parameters to a leveldb database.
So I finally got the opportunity to rewrite this part of the program from scratch, and reduced the ”save” operation time from 17 seconds to 0.0028 seconds. And the parameters are stored in an XML file now, so they are readablea bit more readable than before.
Progress!

Suddently Discourse’s inability to use colo
u
red text doesn’t seem so bad...
BUG: Cannot apply negative likes to this post.
Maybe there is an hidden keyboard shortcut for that ?
So, it seems they are monitoring mouse movements and keyboard events from the moment you enter the page.
I wonder how it handles tablet users, screen reader users, old browser users...
I guess that if you complain about it on meta.d they’ll “fix” it by removing all the quotes from the original message...
The Full Quote function seem to have the same behavior. “Quote whole post”? LIAR!
ISTR a library function being mentioned that they should be using to deal with all that but aren't - a quick skim through the thread produced this which isn't what I was thinking of..
Too bad JavaScript doesn’t support putting text into a DOM item without interpreting it as HTML...
How's that?
Not sure... It could look better with some padding and borders, I think. Adding
padding: .2em .2em .2em .4em;
margin-right: .5em;
border-radius: 10px;
produces
I remember seeing discussions on the WebKit development mailing list about supporting multiple scripting languages (triggered by Google engineers who wanted to promote Dart).
The main arguments against it were:
So basically, I don’t think this will ever happen. We may get new versions of JavaScript which with fewer flaws (ECMAScript 6 seems to be a step in the right direction), but Ruby? I think not.
Looks like I need to figure out how to get Unicode on there

You've signed the CLA, riking. Thank you! This pull request is ready for review.
Wait, so they have a @discoursebot, too?
Or maybe there is a missing barrier between the two?
I have a somewhat similar issue when saving files.
When selecting a destination folder with the mouse, focus moves on the file/folder list. This is fine, but at least on the theme I’m using, there is not much difference between a focused and an unfocused text field:
(animated GIF below, click on it)
So half of the time, I don’t realize the text field is not focused anymore, and I start typing the name:
D’OH!
How about editing flamewars topic titles to add a emoji?
here at work passwords must change every 90 days, be strong passwords (according to an idiotic set of rules that mean they don't tend to be strong or memorable) and can't repeat the last 20 passwords.
Same here, with the added bonus that if you try to change your password after it expired from a Linux box and enter an invalid password (too short/too long/similar to previous one/not enough special chars), it will complain with a very generic error message. And if you fail this test 3 times, game over, your account get locked out.
I am now very cautious when I need to update my password...
```
if (someString.Equals(string.Empty, StringComparrison.OrdinalIgnoreCase) == false)Well, you need to match both lowercase and uppercase empty strings, after all :stuck_out_tongue:
Pretty darn sure that WordPad has a hope of saving it as a plain-text document.
Just write a macro to load the file into a VBA module, and diplay it in the VBA editor.
As an added bonus you will get broken syntax hightlighting.
I work on C code with the following rules:
goto
scontinue
break
in loopsint
, only uint8_t
and friendsGuess what: It doesn’t magically prevent bugs.
Yes, it literally took more effort to write the comment than it would have done to actually do what the comment is.
Maybe $count
Is the on the display a button to like posts on Discourse?
You probably have an invisible character before the shebang, so your shell tries to interpret the file directly, and fails because [invisible char]#!/bin/bash
is not an executable file. Check with hexdump -C
.
(I suspect your editor somehow put an UTF-8 BOM at the start of the file)
I think I’ve seen some errors dialogs which read
Nothing to undo.
[Cancel]
That’s fine until you translate it to French, where « Annuler » is used for both “Cancel” and “Undo”.
Hilarity ensues.
Why a varchar when a small int could handle it?
A small int could cause problems around Y32K or Y64K. This code is ready for Y100K!
Problem solved. When the user
option is present in the fstab, mount
now ignores exec
and sets noexec
instead, regardless of wether the mountpoint is mounted by root
or another user. No warning that user
and exec
are incompatible, of course...
The “Are you sure you want to abandon your post?” dialog shows up. Clicking “No, keep” and then posting the message seem to work correctly.
This is on Firefox 29.0.
Thatsss a nice phone you have there ...
Madam Building B, Apartment 41,
Of course, I checked my profile page. Everything is in order. Looks like someone decided to SELECT secondAddressLine AS username, 'F' as gender
and call it a day…
Looks like the last update some minutes ago “fixed” this... But what fix would be complete without CSS positioning bugs?
I mean, nobody uses lowercase “y” and “g” in titles, right?
```
hr {
border: 1000px solid #f0f;

This commit changed the following line:
This seems to produce the following CSS rule in the stylesheet:
html {
font:0.875em/1.357em Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
}
I’m under the impression that DiscoFox sometimes parses 0.875em/1.357em
as 0.875em
, and other times as 0.6448px
(or maybe there are other rules involved, I’m not sure).
So, time to break something?

And the most amazing thing about that report is that Jeff gave orders to hide the problem by refetching the unread number when the unread tab is clicked.
what source would you want to use for the chains?
Yeah. Pretty much this. If you wanted to make a list of additional characters that were considered distinct enough to be 'username-safe' you'd have to do it manually. Not even unicode normalization would be able to solve this inherently human issue.
Let’s see if it works...
Guess what, it starts by opening a connection and closing it immediately, without negotiating the SSL connection, checking server certificates or anything. Looks promising already.
Shouldn't I at least have Googol, Googolplex and Ackermann as interim badges..?
Maybe g64/2, so there is an intermediate step right in the middle.
Think the script is stable enough yet to leave it running from a terminal on my Ubuntu server?
$ ps aux | grep [s]ignature nobody 30436 0.0 1.1 56244 12092 ? S sept.12 0:35 /usr/bin/python -u /srv/bots/signatureguy.py
Looks fine so far. (But I think I fixed some things since the last time I published the source code -- I will update it in a bit)
I use supervisor to run it. This way, it starts automatically, its output goes to a log file, and it’s restarted if it crashes.
I find it rather disturbing to have to look at pictures of text.
