So, I called up to ask some questions about an application for some voluntary work...
"Hi, you've reached the voicemail of Jane Doe. I'll be out of the office until Wednesday-"
Damn. Oh, well, I can call back...
"-the 30th of April. If you're calling about PCSO applications, the deadline has been extended blah blah blah..."
You have got to be kidding me.
"If you're calling to request a PCSO or Specials application pack, please email me or leave a message and I'll get back to you after April the 30th."

Note that I chose to use the telephone because I figured that, like most people, the lady I needed to speak to gets more work-related emails a day than
she can possibly hope to read whilst still getting any work done. And if she hasn't got around to changing her answerphone message after a minimum of five weeks, maximum of about two years, there's probably little prospect of her returning my calls.
I wouldn't have bothered posting here, except that the person I was trying to contact was the head of HR for my county's Police Force, the voluntary work in question being the office of Special Constable.
