Why can't more companies have the sense to not change their logo?
Sorry dude, you fail.
The new logo is much more pleasant-professinal looking and timelasting than the first one.
The first one was overdue back in 1999. It looks like a logo from a company that bursted when that interwebz bubbly thing went off, and the freesbee through-the-head thing looks like student work.
T he only thing I find in the second one is... did Dell buy Bell?

RE: Acronym WTF
@danixdefcon5 said:
They don't use "computadora", but "ordenador" (Sorter? WTF???)
They translate every frickin' thing they can to Spanish, even tech stuff: RDSI (ISDN) for example, and I'm pretty much surprised they haven't translated DSL yet. Bonus points: they use fichero (chip) for file, instead of archivo (file).
I think the worst thing they've done is to disrespect proper names: Mexico is written Mexico pretty much everywhere, however they insist on writing Mejico. Even the Real Academia Española recommends the correct Mexico spelling.
This is one of many reasons I definitely don't consider studying anything tech related in that country.
Ordenador comes from ordinateur because they prefered to translate from french than english.. usually a lot of tech related words, they preffer to translate from french than from english.
Fichero comes from FICHA, which is a word also used to define tab files or whatever you call those old rectangle thingies where people took notes (A.K.A = FILE). So it's a perfect valid translation , although too literal. I do prefer "archivos" instead.
Spanish is a phonetic language, were you usually spell it just like it sounds.. No one in Spain pronounces Mexico with the X sound.. they will alway pronouce it with an J sound.
That is why the write "beicon" instead of "bacon".. and shit like that on some anglicisims.
BTW acronyms are stupid IMO.

RE: What impresses you?
I'm not impressed by anything because I'm really cool... but...
Fireworks.. for my kind of work i'll take it over photohsop anytime. It has improved my productivity when working web graphics, and it shows it was designed to do that.
Sony Vegas (formerly sonic foundry's) it's IMO the best video editing tool available for Windows. Once again, it makes my workflow much faster and I can concentrate on editing, instead of fiddling around with the software to make it work. It's faster than premier, pinnacle, avid, etc. I find it very intuitive, and best of all, it's not a resource hungry beast. I can make it work on my cheap ass lapotp flawlessly.
So basically I like software that makes my life easier and not the other way around. -

Personally I consider either site's statitics meaningless on a global scheme but regardless, both of those show a larger firefox userbase than your claims.
I think pretty much the only unbiased relevant source for any kind of browser / os statistics would be google and they don't make that publically available.
Well, google analytics is what I use for most of my sites.. and I "my" stats are around 80% for IE in every site . Unless analytics is lying, I consider those numbers real.
FF gets around 12-15% which it's large enough for me to cater to them.. but budgetwise, if it comes to that, it is still a distant second.
There has been an impressive increase in Safari user lately, from almost 0% to almost 5% in some sites.

I don't know, I know a very large amount of windows users that choose Firefox over IE. Matter of fact, the greater majority of people I know use Firefox. So honestly I'd probably rank both browsers equally in importance.
I don't know but all the stats of around 25 sites I have to maintain daily say that more than 80% still use IE. So honestly I won't rank both browser, because stats are doing it for me. I still do my shit right, and try to make everything work even on Opera.

RE: MPS Banned?
What happens when you get a bunch of nerds without any social skills, put them together in an internet forum and have them try to interact in a community?
Just read the threads where there are social skills required (Coin Change, Job interviews, etc).. and see whom answers what.. If you have a little bit of common sense, and social skills, you will see why a lot of people hate MPS, or how a lot of people can't get the morbs jokes 99% of the time. There is a lack of social skills in these forum as I have never seen before in my life. And I've been to comic congresses, the premier of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and even played some role game once. (hey they had free beer!).
There is also this mindbuggling thing about lack of logic. I mean,
nerdsprogrammers and developers, are suppossed to be very logic people. Go read any of the "hate" threads, and detach any feelings from it. Just try to read the logic behind every argument. See again who posts what. Now, when it comes to technicall (coding and all that stuff I know little about) debates, I have to say I've always found that guys like MPS o morb are the kind to be trusted for more reliable information. Not because they have more posts, but because their answers make sense (logic anyone?), are validated when contrasted with other sources information, and are never biased in the "PHP-M$oft-sucks-think-with-your-heart" bullshit that a lot of others try to push in here.
I'm not saying that I haven't felt the need to bitchslap MPS once in a while. I mean no one is perfect, and sometimes he can go overboard, but banning him, is as much a mistake as it is to delete posts.
Everyone in this forum lately has become so fucking touchy and sensible, that is making me sick. (well not really, is kind of amusing actually). Anyone remember Cpound era? Man that dude got hitted hard... and always came back like a man.
And you know what is sad..that the people without social skills will deny it (or are in denial), and the ones without logic skills will never understand it.
Now everyone here should try to grow some skin..

Public phones never work or they steal your change, and smell funny, so what's the point on having nonworking crap all around?
Roaming prices?Fuck it, you are either on vacation: so send them a postcard or find a coffee shop and send em an email.
Or you are on a business trip: so let the company pay the bills. If you are your own company and can't pay roaming, then you shouldn't be making business abroad in the first place.
Also, you can always use the hotel phone, unless of course you are backpacking in cheap eastern europe hostals, which makes you a stoned hippy who doesn't care about calling mommy or whoever.
Maybe just keep a couple of those public phones on airports and hospitals, for emergencies or something...

If you are actually able to get a cubicle, try to get one with 5-foot high walls. I've seen some progammers put into cubes with walls barely higher than their desks and it doesn't really do much for privacy or concentration than sitting in an open room. My cube has 5.5 foot walls and works fairly well. Companies are generally funny about that, though. They want to pay as little as possible. Another problem you'll have is that your coworkers might see you as a prima dona. If you are able to get some privacy for times when you need to concentrate, be sure to allocate time every day to join the frolics and socialize.
I don't think I'll be abe to get a cubicle, spacewise will be a nightmare to rearrange things here. On the other hand I've already asked to be moved to the some dark corner, let's see how this goes. Right now I'm at the single worst spot in the whole company.. in the midde of the office, by the corridor, in front of the door.
I know I'm being kind of grumpy here, but come on.. keep those kids on a leash for god's sake.. I'm trying to work here.. and if they keep this shit up, I'm gonna be seen either as the Prima Dona or The Grinch. I don't care, I have a job to do here, and I rather have my social life outside the office walls, and spend time with my family and friends.
If work is slow, fine let's party (we do that a lot here). But when I have a lot of work, I will not do overtime because of socializing and "frolication" (they do that a lot here also).

Work space interruptus
Ok, so I work at this office that has around 35 people. There are no walls, or cubicles... this an Ad Agency.. with departments on Accounting, Press, Communications, Design.. and ME (the only web developer)..
This office is usually pretty loud, people yell and goof around all the time. I usually just plug my earphones and go tu my "happy place" where I can concentrate, and it usually works.. People know when I'm on Ipod-mode to not disturb me. And I think I'm pretty good at isolating myself inside my own world.
But lately the enviroment is starting to get on my nerves... specially when doing more complicated stuff, debugging or designing stages (basically all the time).. This shit is distracting the hell out of me, and getting me in a bad mood. Just watching people walk around all the time gets me out of "the zone".. and when I get out of it takes a lot of effort to get back in...
Of course now that schools are on vacation.. there a couple of little kids running around 'helping' or whatever.. and this is were I say I just can't handle this shit anymore..
Since I'm sure working at home is out of the equation... I never thought I would say this.. but I want a cubicle...
Am I becoming the grumpy bitter guy on the office?

RE: I just conducted my first interview...
Just do a search on this forum about it... the wisdom will be enligthening (or however that word is spelled)... specially if you are going to interview tattooed people.
Now seriously...
About language, when I lived in the US, I could understand english pretty good, and people could understand me too... I even think and dream in english... but sometimes stressfull situations would block my english..
Example, I was being arrested by the cops and I just could not understand a word they said... keep in mind I've been there for more than a year, and this was in Minneapolis where accent is pretty neutral (to me), so it was my brain playing a trick on me... and accent brings me to your state..
There are a couple of English accents that can be difficult for me to get used to... and one of them is Massachusets accent... damn it was hard to understand you guys.. it will take me about 10 minutes to get used to.. just like when I watch Australian movies, or Guy Ritchie movies.. I need a few minutes to tune my brain.
You can tell if this nervous thing is the case, by how they respond.. meaning.. if they speak good and correct english, but ask you to repeat yourself too much, it's either nerves or your accent (or they might be a little deaf)
I'm not saying you should hire a guy you can't communicate with... nor that you should change the way you speak, but just a few things to keep in mind, specially the stress part..

You're ready and willing to attribute things to a college elitism, but you won't acknowledge your own obvious inferiority complex? Fine, I'll do it for you: you feel threatened by people with college degrees because it's something you couldn't accomplish. To make yourself feel better, you then justify your lack of a college degree by assuming that a college degree can't teach you anything.College can't teach you anything.. no one can teach you anything, but college, books, other people (teachers) can facilitate the road for you to learn and comprehend.. So having a college degree only means that you have a college degree.. nothing more nothing less..
I have three college degrees, (one full 5 year career, and two 2 year ones)... and currently make a living out of something I learned by myself, with no formal education whatsoever...
I 'm not saying college is a bad thing.. but believing that college is the only way, it's ellitist and sad. Specially in a fast changing field like IT and computers.. formal education simply cannot keep the pace.. so good developers are not good because they went to college, but because they learned and keep learning..

Doesn't matter if your parents are going to help pay or not... somehow that's irrelevant.
