Is Microsoft That popular?
-
The other day i was having problems with networking issues using Windows Vista and came across this interesting message:
I never knew Microsoft.com was so well known
James
-
It's certainly "well known" to Windows ...
-
It makes sure to send all our private information there!
-
Reminds me of the time I got "Entire Network (Not Responding)" in Windows 98... wish I still had that screenshot.
-
If microsoft.com is not a well-known domain, then I would love to know your definition of one.
-
Not so much that it's well known. It's that it is pretty reliable.
I think that's the reason it was one of the first websites to disable the ICMP Ping response due to load, or so I have been told.

I don't think creating a tag for mugged threads is necessarily a good idea. Doing that gives it an opportunity to put the "Nominated for the Mug" tag on the front page, which would then link users (and search engines) to ... get this ... mugged threads! Since we don't want users reading and commenting on mugged threads, we should not do anything that encourages it.
But since tag clouds are worthless (good idea, bad in practice, like Communism), and the only point in using tags is internet vandalism, I must tag this thread:

But on the other hand, if someone ever was ambitious enough to want to go through all the mugged threads, and actually mug them, they could just click on that tag.
IOW I don't really care about the ramifications of the tag cloud. It was abused long before I started abusing it, and it will continue long after I stop abusing it.

Wheres CapnSteve? He should be along any minute to tell me what an asshole I am for stating my opinion...

You will?
Nope. But it was a lot of fun to get people's hopes up.

I think querying just configured DNS server for www.microsoft.com is a valid test for the DNS server. That's why Vista does that.
-
Microsoft.com? Never heard of it.
Obviously, the idea is that they want to use a well-known site that has almost a 100% chance of your DNS server finding, rather than a more obscure listing. This way you can be fairly certain the problem is with your configuration or whatever, and not just the DNS server unable to find the entry. Are you really saying Microsoft.com doesn't qualify?
