Request of suggestions for what to do with Clippy

I think @clippy is an interesting username, that I feel should do something fun and/or useful on the forum.
But the current incarnation of it isn't very popular, and is being received as an annoyance when it is summoned, so this topic's purpose is to gather opinions on what it should be.
Somethings I consider:
- We just keep it off, but share it's password officialy with the owners of the forum, in case they ever get a better use for it. (I know the admins don't really need it, but a documented transfer would be better accepted on the community than they forcefully transfering in the database or something)
- Use it as a chatgpt without it trying to be funny, for asking things and to summarize topics
- Help the moderators identify spam or something?
- Automatically necro a topic more than 10 years old from time to time
-
- Keep all its ramblings to a thread specifically reserved for bot ramblings. I don't mind that you people have fun with it. I am just bigoted against bots.

Traditionally, we've always confined the 'funny' bots to the bot testing subcategory. I don't recall whether the bots permissions were restricted to that category as well.
-
I think it's both funny and impressive what you've done with it.
Having it only available in bot testing kind of defeats its purpose, but unfortunately it does get really annoying really fast.

@dangeRuss ChatGPT can do code generation, however it would be mostly fodder for CodeSOD.

I've gotten some good stuff from bing with a bit of prodding. Biggest issue is the size of the files, gets annoying real fast when it can't finish a file in one message.
-
Maybe we can rate limit the bot? Maybe if the bot is only allowed to post in non-Bot Testing threads once or twice per month, it wouldn't be as bad.

GPT-4 is a good time saver for some stuff. if you drop it fast when you notice it can't handle something it's a large net positive. when I insist in trying to get it to do something it can't I waste a lot of time.

Kill it. Kill it with fire.

At the very least, make it not-reply when simply @-mentioned, this gets old very fast. I think something like only reacting on a specific invocation would be enough (e.g. a line that starts with
Hey @clippy
).That aside, I think it's a fun bot (and nice work you've done!) so I'm not particularly opposed to it. But I also think that the fun wears thin pretty quick so if it was changed to something else... I wouldn't really care either way.

Thought we had a thread for this.

IOW trying to make it actually useful as an agent? That's a fairly tall order considering the rush of companies failing to do so, but ready for the attempt!

Does this happen often? Or perhaps you mean, identify sub-threads that might deserve jeffing or garage-motion?

There would need to be more criteria needed. But it might be interesting. Make sure to do it under your original though.
