I just feel like I need to talk

@Benjamin-Hall Fortunately the targets in question don't post much outside the Garage, so it's occasional threads and honestly there's enough other traffic to rerail it the rest of the time.
When one particular target was really active, it screwed up quite a few threads, both garage and not. More an annoyance than anything. Affects mobile worse...but then mobile

@HardwareGeek NodeBB has a block user feature that
...messes up with pagination and read bookmarks.

You can't be talking about me
No, I'm definitely not.
One of the people I am talking about is so inarticulate and incoherent that I have CSS to hide his posts, because just trying to read his words, much less decipher meaning from them, gives me a headache. The other isn't incoherent, but he's either a very successful troll or such an idiot that he supports his arguments with "facts" from comedians and articles that say exactly the opposite of the point he's trying to prove.
Wonder who those people could be?
-
@Gąska this is a price I am willing to pay to not have to read certain people.
-
@Arantor oooor you could use custom CSS, like us.
-
@Gąska does iOS Safari support it? I am a filthy iPad user most of the time… (and no, changing to Android is not an option)
-
@Arantor it's in NodeBB profile settings. It works everywhere. Should work, at least. Look up the CSS thread.

Does filthy modify iPad or user? () Either way, I recommend a pressure washer.
I couldn't find a similar picture featuring a tablet.

@HardwareGeek well, it was more that I’m fundamentally unclean by allowing an iDevice to taint my soul, at least round here…
But on the other hand I don’t care to jailbreak or change the 1001 settings that the promised land of Android claims I can have. Like… if that’s something you care about, great, go for the device that works for you, but I actively want my tablet to be an appliance that Just Works where possible without me tampering.

I don’t care to jailbreak
I bought one that was unlocked, so no need. The downside is that, while people complain about limited OS update support from their cell carrier, I never had any in the first place. Although apps update regularly, I don't think I've ever gotten an OS update.
change the 1001 settings that the promised land of Android claims I can have.
That's why I chose Android, so that I could, but in practice I've never actually felt the need (other than limiting some app permissions).
-
@HardwareGeek all my friends that preach the promised lands tell me how awful it is that I can’t jailbreak my device, and now you’ll telling me it’s not important????

I've never jailbroke any of mine...

@Arantor I think it's awful, in principle, that you're not allowed to; you should be able to do what you want with your own device (short of modifying it in ways that would violate communication or safety laws, or that sort of thing). The manufacturer should, maybe, not make it easy for idiots, but if you know what you're doing and willing to accept the risk of possibly insecure software, you should be able to do so.
In principle.
In practice, it's rarely if ever necessary.
-
@HardwareGeek here’s a really controversial take.
Your reasoning is partly why I chose Apple for some of my consumer electronics at one point in time. I’m actually more in favour of closed ecosystem for such things precisely because I want the device to just work and am willing to trade the inconvenience of not getting at its innards for the times I really want it to just work.
Would I want this for my main laptop? Hell to the no, but for a device that is a glorified web browser that I occasionally do financial stuff on? I want that as safe as realistically possible (since it’s not always feasible to be at my laptop with separate VM for payment type stuff) and the more open the ecosystem, the less safe it seems to me.
