Seconded at having a backpack as a laptop bag. I usually take the bike to work (back when I was still allowed to come to the office), and it's just the most convenient method.

That's what the velcro on the cargo pants is for.

I've also heard announcements that there are pickpockets about can be counter-productive, as they cause people to check en masse if they still have their wallets - showing the pickpockets exactly where they are keeping them.

I had heard that those signs are put up by the thieves, for that exact reason.
