But here's a few new ones:
Which one do you prefer?
Edit: for a change, I did not test these over a light background, since I didn't do manual painting for transparency.

Dammit NodeBB, this post does have two characters.

@Applied-Mediocrity
but what if you are a bottom kind of guy?Asking for a friend ...

@Zecc said in Emoji testing:

I think the ones that are divided vertically are clearer than the ones divided diagonally or @Applied-Mediocrity's horizontal ones. However, I think I like the existing the best; to me, at least, it's clearer than any of the others, although having a trolley is good, too. I don't have a strong preference between the two vertically-divided trolleys, although given the nature of this place and the people in it, the back end is probably appropriate.

How about something like this:
-
@hungrier horrible aliasing artifacts for some reason.

I think that's a Firefox thing, like with . It looks fine in Chrome-ish browsers

Very likely. But it would be more reliable and a smaller file if the image was pre-rendered for the emoji size with correct anti-aliasing instead of leaving it to the browser.
INB4 you tell me that's a dumb idea because emojis aren't actually fixed size?!
-
@topspin Emojis can be a multiple of a fixed size. On my phone screen they're 46px high instead of 23px. I'll see if it looks any better rendered at either 23 or 46; FWIW and are pixel accurate and don't look too bad when scaled up, but they're both pixel art by nature.

@ben_lubar Feature request: transforms and animations for emojis (half, 33%, any fraction, gradient, layers, boolean operations, soft body physics, custom machine learning based rescalers, RTX ON)
Shouldn't be difficult, methinks.
-
Native 23 and 46 pixel versions. In the preview the edges looked disgusting on both but maybe the rest of it being antialiased looks better on Firefox? @topspin
e: The 23 px version looks pretty bad on my phone
-
@hungrier 46px version actually looks better, 23px looks like the lines are broken.

This. Chrome, latest, on ancient Android. 46 pix version looks crisp; native 23 pix version is very blurry. Difference is more apparent than @topspin's screenshot.

@topspin Can we have this image as an emojicon? At this size.

FWIW it looks pretty good at high res on mobile. But on desktop it's still quite indistinct, even with the added transparency.

feature request for @ben_lubar or whoever is inclined to code it up.
custom emoji
:random:
which on post save replaces itself with a random emoji (but keeps the mouseover text of:random:
)because that would be "hilarious"
for a sufficiently broad definition of hilarious.

Feature request:
:xkcd:
that we could use instead of quoting a (semi-)relevant XKCD comic which we all know and where the only "fun" is in seeing how wrong @error_bot gets it even when you happen to know the exact name of the comic.
