Has anyone yet seriously had the requirement to do version number pinning or support multiple versions of things (e.g., because they want to match a specific environment at a customer)?
You can, in fact, do exactly that.
nightly
,beta
, andstable
are aliases for the latest nightly, latest beta, and latest stable. But you can also use rustup to install date-specific versions, and swap between them.
