Yet another issue with the mobile interface:
While browsing, and this happens more often than not, whenever I open the sidebar I have to check whether the bar at the bottom with the thread read progress moves upwards a notch. If it does, then that means that wherever I tap on the sidebar will register as a tap that same vertical distance below where I actually tapped, as if there was an invisible button map layered over the actual elements and this map moved with that bottom bar. So for instance if I want to open Unread I have to tap Categories or sometimes Navigation. The composer is completely unaffected, as is the main page content.side note
guess which forum software makes all its buttons buttonsEdit: In an attempt to edit the above post, I observed the same effect with the post options menu, and the buttons on the subsequently mistapped delete screen.
By the way, this is all completely fucking random. Like, when I posted this the first time, it was there, and when I edited it, it was there, and when I edited it again, it wasn't there anymore, despite not navigating away from this page the whole time.

@pie_flavor CLOSED SECOND DUPLICATE of https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/25290/mobile-vertical-confusion/
-
@heterodox No, it's not. Separate issue. I mean in terms of behavior, they might have the same underlying cause, I dunno. But I did specifically say that it does not affect the composer.
-
@pie_flavor They definitely started at the exact same time and neither behavior exhibits itself on a stock NodeBB board. Pretty sure they're the same thing.
-
@heterodox then why does the bug with the composer happen completely independently of the bug with the sidebar/menus? And that's been a bug for longer than the composer buttons being offscreen was.

I thought this was going to be a thread about SourceTree, was left disappointed.
-
@pie_flavor On a hunch: Are you using infiniscroll or pagination? It's possible the composer issue only exhibits itself on the latter.
-
@heterodox I took to using infiniscroll because people had assured me that it didn't actually scroll to random ass-locations, and I've since forgotten to turn it off after they were categorically incorrect. And this is not a composer issue.
-
@pie_flavor I don't know why you're getting so worked up; I understand that you're not seeing the composer issue like other people are. That's why I asked if your settings may be the differentiator (your answer supports my hypothesis, thanks).
-
@heterodox I am seeing the composer issue. This is not the composer issue.
-
@pie_flavor I see; that wasn't clear when you said "The composer is completely unaffected". In that case, your only assertion is they must be separate bugs because they happen independently of each other? Yeah, maybe. But they were both reported in the OP of the other thread and for myself (and it sounds like for @boomzilla and most of the people in the other thread) it started at the exact same time.
(Yes, I did read where you said the side menu issue has existed for longer. All I can say is that doesn't match my observations.)

Ahem:
@boomzilla said in Mobile vertical confusion:Also, trying to tap on things in menus often end up selecting the item right above whatever I actually touched.

I use infiniscroll.

I'm pretty sure they're the same thing. It's some confusion within the browser with its titlebar / urlbar are displayed (or not).
-
@boomzilla Agreed. I don't see the sidebar issues, because I only very rarely use that menu at all. But the composer part grinds my gears something fierce.
-
I think this is the first website I've ever been able to hit some sort of deadlock condition on.
Those two buttons are literally impossible to hit due to the vertical glitch, and pushing the back button just layers more on top.

What the fuck?
Edit: and repro'd on try.nodebb.com . Submitting bug report...
