Kicking it where?

@dangeruss Every automatic car I've driven has defaulted to "Overdrive". That just means it had a high-speed gear to help fuel economy.
-
@dangeruss I would interpret "kicking it back into overdrive" to mean "kicking it into overdrive again;" i.e., it used to be in overdrive, but left that state and is now being returned to it.

I don't think that's quite right.
You're correct, their usage of transparency is somewhat non-genuine...

@dangeruss So the Bergen County Library system no longer supports eBooks at all. Good to know!

That's possible, not sure what the history there is.

You have something against overdrive?

@dangeruss I've had no luck with their apps for Windows Phone, Windows Mobile, Android, or iOS, across multiple libraries and devices. In most cases I can't stay logged in long enough to check out, and in the few cases where I did, the titles were listed as checked out to me, but not present in my "bookshelf".
Oh, and there's no OverDrive app anymore for any device I currently own. There's "Libby", but it's not compatible with my local libraries.

@twelvebaud I've used Overdrive successfully to check out and read books, but I hate it. You login to your library, but you're not really logged in yet. There's like an extra step or something. And then there's some other magical step to actually download a book that you've checked out. I don't use it often enough to remember the user hostile process, although my wife checks a lot of stuff out that way.
