Get a different dog? This one didn't mind chasing them, even if she didn't know what she was doing...

My dog is a hunter (coonhound) so she's good. I just posted for .

Er... isn't that a swearword these days?

How does she sniff the Pokęmon out?

Add to that she is a mix of red-boned coonhound and black and tan coonhound.
How does she sniff the Pokęmon out?
Dogs have some super smell capabilities. I was very pleased when she sniffed out the Magmar that was hanging out by the gym.

Subway to the beach eventually goes outside. I catch a few on my there and the way home.
Boardwalk at the beach is both a Pokestop and gym. No pokemon on the beach though.
The tracker shows Brighton Beach and Coney Island have more Pokemon to catch than the Rockaways.

Still remember visiting the Portland Rose Gardens with my family. The place was utterly infested with lickitungs. My sister caught a few.

I've only caught one...and it was nicely in my neighborhood. Husband got it too.
Yesterday, husband and I went to Central Park. I needed to catch a bunch of Pokemon to make it to the next level.
While we didn't see any Charmander or Pikachus we caught several Slowpokes, Growlithes, Voltorbs (I finally got enough to evolve one), Ponytas (I earned enough candy to evolve my 999 Ponyta that I caught last week), I caught my first Dratini (I've only seen 1 before it ran away from me) and my husband caught his first Nicki Minaj (Jinx). We got a Drowsy too. I got a really high Magikarp (162).
I did over 15K steps as per my activity tracker.

By west you mean western hemisphere?
My kids told me to name her that. I like Nicki Minaj, I do a lot of her songs in karaoke.

Yeah, I am way more active than I was previously. I was barely hitting 7K most days and even less on weekends.
Which is why I don't feel bad spending money on it...I pay for a gym membership I haven't used in months.
-
@Karla said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

Pretty much.
Interestingly, in Japan, Jinx isn't meant to be racist, despite resembling blackface: There's actually a strange fashion trend over there where women paint their faces similarly, which is what the Pokemon is designed to look like, but when the games got translated, they worried about the backlash and changed the skin to purple.

I don't blame them for changing it.

@Magus They did the same thing with Mr Popo in the Dragonball Z universe. When it first aired it was a inky black genie, now he's a blue toned one.

There's one across the street from my apartment complex...but it's in a golf course, apparently far enough away that you can't reach it from the street.

I went to Battery Park last night and caught so many Magickarp and even one that is 182!!!!
Also 3 Sheldors (first time I've seen in the wild--I hatched one though) and caught one Onyx (while 2 low cp ones, 31 and 51, ran away).
I hatched 2 Charmanders yesterday too.
My husband is worried I am too obsessed.

The snake is relatively low maintenance...I don't even remember the last time we fed him. Cats have all died.
Don't forget about the dog, 4 adult children, 1 boyfriend**, 1 toddler, and my husband.
Ah fuck, we don't have enough room for us. (Can we get margarita emoji?)
**Not my boyfriend, of course.

I see where you are going with that...
Cats were old, all but one of the 6 made it to at least 15 yo (2 were at least 17).
10 human years = 60 cat years
12 human years = 70 cat years
14 human years = 80 cat years
16 human years = 84 cat yearsThe one that died the youngest was 10 but she had cancer with tends to be common with the black and whites (which 5 of the 6 were).
Even when a snake is young you don't need to feed it very often. Once a month is fine now and adults tend to not eat all winter (too cold for their metabolism).
Dog is probably a little overweight and toddler was 70th percentile in both height and weight. Both adult boys outgrew their dad (and all 4 outgrew their mom).

Cats have all died = no more fresh kittens to feed the snake?

One of the cats would hunt the snake I'll post picture when I get home. Unless the snake got really lucky I am pretty sure he would lose that match up.
-
@Karla how big was the snake? Newborn kittens are pretty small.

@anotherusername said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

I've only had the snake for like 5 years...none of my cats were kittens in that time (and all fixed long before then).
He eats a good sized rat which I think is bigger than newborn kittens but the cat hunting him was big enough the snake would have to be really lucky to strike well enough.
They don't even recommend feeding live rats to the snake because the rat can do damage to it.
Rat can be a threat to the snake, cats are a threat to rats therefore cats are a threat to the snake.

So this just happened:
Needed a soda after a pretty boring demo (where my head was nodding) and decided go get the soda and catch a few pokemon.
Trying to hang out by the lured pokestops and I walk between a few of them. My lucky egg is about go and I'm trying to determine the best route back to work.
I check the tracker (https://skiplagged.com/catch-that/) there is a Koffing two blocks South going to disappear in just little over a minute.
Fuck it...let me try...
Start walking fast dodging and passing people (damn tourists) and after the first block there a bunch of people with Oxfam shirts.
I'm thinking please don't talk to me, I'm in a hurry and don't have any money on me anyway.
One of the guys moves directly in my path facing me and I'm thinking like Luda** when he says,Are you rushing to see me?
I respond:
Nah, man I gotta get that Koffing Candy***
Sadly, the Koffing appears and when I touch it...it says error. Poof, missed it.
***Well maybe in my head 5 minutes later...I really just responded by smiling and laughing.

Pokeballs shoot a red laser at the target that shrinks/turns into data a living creature. They can then be shrunk down to a smaller size to go on belts. This is stuff people have known since episode 1.

Ah. So that explains how your character can carry 250 pokemon with him all the time. Do the pokeballs also shrink down to a smaller size in your bag? You get to carry 350 of them, and if they are the size of a baseball as they appear, that would mean the bag every player carries around is the size of Santa Claus's sack. I'll assume they do shrink down in the bag, instead of assuming every player carries a bag of holding.

Yes, actually. Condensed for storage they're about this size:

@Yamikuronue It's worth pointing out that the games are RPGs, and somewhat more realistic than, say, Final Fantasy, where it's not unlikely you're carrying 14 greatswords in your pocket, but still very unrealistic: You can easily carry several hundred of those, empty.
But you can only hold six with pokemon inside, so maybe there's some important reason behin-
Yeah, no, it's just game mechanics.

It's because... err... uh... if you hold more than 6 near each other, the quantum flux fields interfere and cause a singularity, engulfing the pokemon and pokeballs in a huge firey deathball?

@sloosecannon I wonder how a society where literally everyone can buy enough consumer electronics to immediately have a doomsday device would work.

IOW lithium-ion batteries in 10 years? :P
-
@sloosecannon Well I mean, just think about it: Everyone always carries around six pokemon, because why would you not have the maximum defense against someone running up and stealing half your money for looking at them?
So if you were to just catch a massive number of pidgeys and ratatas, you could just throw a pokeball with one inside at the person walking over, so eager for your cash, and they'd die. With pretty much no evidence.
Society would end up rather weird I say.

@Karla Are you checking the IVs too? I have a near perfect magikarp, with 15, 14 and 15 IVs, even if he's not the strongest by CP. But I can use dust and candy to level him once I evolve it.

I haven't yet. I do keep a few of the top CPs. I only just started looking at the appraisal.
I actually have the 400 candies to evolve it now...I am patiently waiting until I have enough other candy to go on an evolution spree with a lucky egg. I can evolve me Drowzy now too.
I used to keep everything that was over 1000 cp but then I had tons of Goldbats, Pincers, Tauros, etc. Now if the appraisal says won't battle well I get rid of it.
-
@Magus said in The Official Pokèmon Go Thread:

Except they don't. Enemy trainers with 6 pokemon are the exception, not the rule. So you're the crazy mofo trading off chances of being killed for a better defense of his money.
-
@Yamikuronue All the murderer needs is at most five ratata: most people will need less than that to kill, and they're cheap to get more of.
