What kind of fucking logic is that.
The logic of tough love.
"Hey guys, Retractable PVC here. Just making this video to ask you all to turn off adblocking when watching my videos. I don't want to have to get a real job, or try to monetize my work in any other way. Sure, it's literally impossible to make a living with anything less than 10M views per video, but I'm that special snowflake who will be the exception. I mean, sure, right now I'm only making a fraction of a penny off each view from all 500 of you-- and all that is assuming I don't get hit with a copyright claim, community violation-- and also assuming that YouTube keeps these rates constant and predictable. Because none of those factors are ever going to change. So please, guys, keep watching with adblock off. It's unethical to watch while blocking ads. If you don't like the ads, you can always mute them or skip them-- or better yet watch them multiple times so I get more money. Clickfraud isn't unethical if it's benefiting me.
Now I know some of you have suggested I abandon this burst-bubble of a business model and look into crowdfunding. And sure with 500 of you watching, even if 10% of you donate $1 per episode I'll be making orders of magnitude more than with ads-- but c'mon guys, that's hard work. Setting up a page, typing in things. I didn't get into this because I wanted to do work.
So remember, the only reason I'm not mega rich right now is because you greedy fukcers are stealing my $0.0001 per view. This is a completely logical viewpoint, and sustainable business model.
Retractable PVC out. Remember to like and subscribe!"
IIRC, Vimeo (at least as of a couple years ago) explicitly banned video game videos. EDIT: it looks like they rescinded that, but only in Oct. 2014, so it's not like I'm way out-of-touch here.
Meh, I didn't know they didn't allow video game LPs either. Glad they do now.
Also most of my Whisky bottles cost in the range of $45-$55. I think only two bottles have exceeded $60.
So you do have whisky that costs more than $60 a bottle. Like I said.

http://cumulusclips.fbmac.xyz/ is free, but also hosted on a laptop, with an ADSL connection, and a mild risk of being deleted.
-
It doesn't seem much different from a simple HTML 5 video tag though, what is the point of this web app anyway?

I see it.

Huh. I thought @fbmac had made the edit as a joke and made a typo — 42 hours instead of 24.
But it seems 42 hours is the actual timeout value as set by Discourse. Has it always been like that? Or was it changed as a joke?

So there is still the distinct possibility that @fbmac deleted the post as a joke, but without editing the message.

I deleted it intentionally then I changed my mind

@fbmac, confusing TDWTFers since <span title="26 August 2015 5:12 PM"Aug '15.Edit: Fixed the discodate.

26 August 2015.
Whoa, hang on there, buddy! That date is WAY too accurate for
Can you change that to something like Aug'26. Or maybe "1 Year Ago"?
-
A'26 2015.
body is invalid

So is anybody gonna buy a Vimeo account for me?

I'm sure it'll work out just as well as the last time I tried to talk up your videos.
-
I am curious to try it but I can't justify spending money on that dumb hobby.
-
Then get a Basic (free) account. 500mb per week. Compress one video to try it out. They'll probably also send you a "upgrade to Pro for disountz" coupon at some point.
-
I'm not sure I have any videos below 500 MB. I could look I suppose. Maybe one of the 720p RPGMaker ones

No?

Hopefully no one in charge of the website notices, and gets pissed about it, and it becomes the straw that breaks the camel's back and flips them from to

Hence "compress". I grabbed one of your videos at random. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjAKGVLFNk4 YouTube serves it up at 51.5MB.
Try using their suggested compression settings for whatever editor you use, and see what happens:
-
YouTube already compresses them too much. I can tell the difference between the YouTube version and my .mp4. (I mean, I don't blame them. Despite all the headaches I get from YouTube they are hosting a shitload of my data for effectively free.)
I'd expect a service I pay for to do a better job.

Never understood why they don't server-side re-encode, but maybe that's just one of the cost saving measures. {shrug} Small price to pay for not dealing with ContentID. Plus I learned a bunch about WTF video encoding actually is by having to do it myself. I always record in 1080P for everything. It's nice to know a good set of presets to output at "here's a reasonable file size to keep permanently archived for something I don't need in 1080p"

Who is "they"? YouTube? They do. That's why my videos in a YouTube window (even at top quality settings) look shittier than when run from my HD.

Oh wait, "they" is Vimeo?
So wait, you're saying I pay these guys money, and if a low-bandwidth user comes along, that user is just fucked? Because Vimeo never bothers to make a low-bandwidth version of the video?
Ok I'm less interested in using Vimeo now.
-
A static page with HTML 5 video tags, or a VM wirth cumulusclips on your server wouldnt solve it?
I guess YouTube isn't that bad, anyway
-
I've been thinking about setting that up as well, but YouTube unfortunately has a lot of network effects that make it more useful. For example, it'll one-box everywhere. And YouTube is the only service you can use to add videos to your Steam account-- Steam won't even accept Vimeo.
-
No, they do provide different version of the video, depending on who is watching. I've never tested how robust it is.
It's just the INITIAL upload needs certain settings when you encode it. I guess so they have a mostly stable starting point to re-encode for web.
Again, all worth it to avoid contentID fuckery.

@loopback0, you live in 2017?

At risk of ... huh?

The post was talking about "last year" and your screenshot showed one from 2016, which as of right now is this year.

Oh yeah
