Agree completely. However, I wouldn't take the plaintiff's side in that case. Have some personal responsibility, lady.

They describe themselves as “apolitical” hackers who want to end Belarus’ “terrorist” regime and ensure equal rights for all.
That sounds like the exact opposite of "apolitical".

I'd like to see the case dismissed and the judge stick her with all the court costs.
-
@dcon Probably. Granted, I haven't read the details of the allegation, but it certainly seems like a classic "frivolous" lawsuit that has almost zero chance of succeeding on the merits.

I would have accepted Zimbardo's argument to include the commanders in the Abu Ghraib case too. Not to absolve the guards completely, but people are only able to handle so much pressure.

Seems like a joke, but this is how armored divisions were assembled in feudal times. Now that nation-states vs individual nobles are the primary tank buyers, of course, nobody expects the loans to be paid back.

Meanwhile in B*****m:
The police say that the case is pretty unique as prisoners generally try and break out of gaol rather than trying to get back inside.

Museums and similar venues. I think even the US has limits on selling actual machinery of war to private citizens?

I seem to recall reading a story about a guy who converted a bulldozer to an armoured vehicle and went on a rampage.

The only limits are
- zoning
- sale of operational
weapons of destructiondestructive devices (which encompasses a whole lot more than just tanks; any gun over a certain caliber is automatically one, as are most explosives) - sale of particular military hardware (the avionics packages of warplanes, the electronics packages of tanks, etc)
You can own (zoning permitting) a "defanged" tank (ie one with the gun filled with cement and the military electronics stripped out and replaced by civilian versions) just fine. Same with a warplane. Or, should you be able to get your hands on one, a battleship. Upkeep is a royal pain, however--those suckers aren't cheap to maintain/operate.

You can buy road-legal tanks here too.

Well, I guess I need to watch this now. A terrible name hid another promising premise. Can't wait to see how they fucked it up.

I drink a lot of bottled water, mostly because I love sparkling water but I'm too lazy to get my own carbonator. I'd expect my environmental impact to be much greater than 3,500x since I live in Chicago but only buy water imported from Europe because all local brands aren't sparkling enough for my taste.

I've always joked that veganism was a problem that would take of itself. Didn't expect to be taken seriously.

Hey, @Rhywden, please don't listen to your shoulder aliens. Just accept that sometimes bad things happen no matter how much you want to blame them on people who had nothing to do with it.

Was curious about the article - recently tried a beyond burger (yea, different brand, but probably similar ideas), and it was quite tasty.
Anyway, reading a bit, these people seem to have an axe to grind when it comes to anything GMO. Perhaps not too surprising given the domain name. Wouldn't take them too seriously. Specific substance is being tested by the EU food safety authority, so let's see what they have to say.

I had an Impossible burger a while back, and it tasted like a spiced hamburger – the flavor wasn't a perfect match, but it was close enough that I categorized it as "a hamburger plus some spice or another." Or maybe the chain I bought it from just spices their burgers (like, say, how Red Robin has a standard spice mix they add).
