At least they know what they want to be when they grow up

If you do not understand the code, why do you use it?
That thread, in a nutshell.
-
You repeat the same bad practice... again and again... and you want me/us to show you how to fix the same bad code... again and again.

(EDIT: Discourse posting restrictions again. Couldn't simply move my edit to another post then delete it from here. "Body of message too similar...." Grumble, grumble, hisss.)
I lol'd.
If you download the vBulletin smilies to your PC, you should be able to unzip the file into a folder, then drag and drop a smilie into a post. That's how I do it, anyway.
Even they hate the smilies :)

HTML and CSS are interpreted languages, not compiled. Most definitely not computer programming .
I have nothing but respect for ronpat's tenacity, but, damn....
-
To be fair, HTML and CSS aren't really programming… but yeah, saying they're not programming because they're interpreted is just plain wrong
-
It falls under the category of "not even wrong"...
-
a) Wtf is this even? b) Does the infinispinner and broken functionality go away when you log in?
-
Maybe if you type your password into the user profile field Dosciurse replaces it with Private Notes...

A client has asked me to build and install a custom shelving system. I'm at the point where I need to nail it, but I'm not sure what to use to pound the nails in. Should I use an old shoe or a glass bottle?

a) Wtf is this even?
I'm guessing a plugin. This is @cpradio's place. Perhaps he could enlighten us.
-
More importantly, is it available through the JSON API and can I write a bot that would add a note saying "Dickweed" to every profile?
-
They'll make a quasi-non-incompetent web developer out of her yet.
The question is WHY?

Hmm, galia, accalia. Is galia @accalia's spellaring sister?
-
Hmm, g<i>alia</i>, acc<i>alia</i>. Is galia @accalia's spellaring sister?
I believe galia is ESL, but that doesn't in any way excuse the formatting trainwreck that her post is...

Whoa, I had absolutely no idea you could just drag any file here to share it.
Text! PDFs! Executables! Anything up to 1MB!
Memory_Management_in_the_D_Programming_Language.pdf (517.5 KB)
The Absolute Minimum Every Software Developer Absolutely, Positively Must Know About Unicode and Character Sets (No Excuses!) - Joel on Software.mht (317.1 KB)
sspipes.scr (596 KB)
PINBALL.EXE (274.5 KB)
-
-
I noticed the button changed at some point
-
It's the pinball.exe taken straight from a Windows XP machine . But it won't work unless you have all the other files in the same directory, so don't bother trying it.
sspipes.scr, however, will work on any modern Windows computer!
-
-
I have a new toy though.exe (101 KB)
-
You're evil
-
Huh.
Does it onebox anything other than images? Like audio or video?
-
-
Great find!
It feels so good to upload files.Lua50m.dll (157.5 KB)
Coroutine.cs (4.7 KB)
???.nfo (1.7 KB)
-

I get to the splash screen in WINE.
-
It feels so good to upload files.
-
indeed!
-
Huh.
Does it onebox anything other than images? Like audio or video? It should if you manually add < video> or < audio> tags, but it doesn't seem to for some reason.
(see: this comment's source)
???.nfo (1.7 KB)
I have no idea what this is.

-
Just FYI, here's why:
< Discourse.SiteSettings.authorized_extensions > "*"
-
Is that the default? Seems like it's just asking for trouble...
-
Is there an upper limit on size? Or can I start using PM:s to myself for my backups?
-
Sorry, the file you are trying to upload is too big (maximum size is 1024kb)
Except for images, which can be about 3MB.
-
Can't you use multipart zip archives?
Just show a bunch of them in each post.
-
Can't you use multipart zip archives?
Probably, but would you want to go through all that effort? I guess not ;)
-
Didn't somebody write (or is writing) an API to deal with Discourse programmatically?

You're talking to a @SockBot contributor ;)
