Quoting breaks URLs
-
So, I had a URL followed by a footnote in my message. The footnote was effected using tags.
(Incidentally my post is not being reproduced faithfully here— so that's a bug I noticed from filing a bug report. It's also converted my escaped\*
s into*
's and hence italicized part of my post as well, now it's just blatantly trolling me):http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/google-closing-yet-another-service-googlecode/9085/37
Anyway, when EvanED replied to me, all the footnote's formatting was stripped, and the '1' of my footnote is now being interpreted as part of the URL.

Ergo: quoting breaks URLs.
I'm going to see if I can reproduce by replying: http://google.com1

Boom.
Oh, no, wait. I can use the "Quote whole post" option instead. That should at least preserve the URL, right?
I'm going to see if I can reproduce by replying: http://google.com1
Oh. Yeah, about that...

Hmm, maybe we can have normal formatting instead of saying quotes are Doing It Wrong(tm)?
Eh, no, that's Thinking About Doing It Wrong(tm).
