Not a button
-
I had to take a look at some pay stub stuff, and my ADP password was expired, so I reset it. Annoying, of course, but no big deal. In doing so, I had to click multiple times on multiple things that looked like buttons:
Except it's really just a link. But mostly not. You have to click on the text inside the button looking thing.
I hate this shit.
-
That UI element must have been designed for touch screens. Your finger would be big enough to touch the text, the button, the confirmation message above the button, and crush several small children all at the same time.
-
Had something similar recently. For work related purposes they provide me with an email adress (which almost no one uses...). Last month they proudly announced that you can now provide a private email adress in order to be able to reset your password yourself!
However, this piece of news on the internal sorta-blog-but-not-really provided no link to such a tool. So I searched around and finally found it. The next page proceeded to tell me how to enter an email adress and then told me that I just had to click the following link.
Followed by a paragraph with the text: "Click the link here!"
Followed by a BUTTON with the text "Click the link here!"
The button worked, by the way. They got bonus points for telling me earlier that my chosen password (8 letters, small and caps, numbers and special chars) did not fill all the security requirements.
But failed to mention WHAT those requirements actually were.My email to those guys was less than friendly. Oh, and that email password thingie? Doesn't actually check if the email you provide exists (like with a confirmation link in the confirmation email).

Try installing Windows Server .
"Your password does not meet the password policy set on this system, please consult with your Administrator"
OMG WTF BBQ I AM TRYING TO CREATE THE ADMINISTRATOR.

2012.FTFY. From my experience at least. Which is, admittedly, limited, but I'm sure 2008 does the same thing.

2008 does the same thing.
so does 05, but IIRC it lets you override it and set the password anyway durring setup.

Wait, @boomzilla's a giant?

I thought they went from 2003 directly to 2008.
They did.
There was Virtual Server 2005 (which ran on 2003) but actual server OS went 2003 -> 2008.

correction. sorry. 03 not 05.

What, there's forumpointzz in this thread? Where? How? Need forumpointzz!

Don't hate the player, hate the game of forummpointzzz being everywhere and you not being able to see them.

Just making fun. I've seen the @shadowmod monthposts, and my chances of ever hitting 10% are slim.

I've come back from, what, a couple of months' absence and gone back to 25% in three days. Three days in which I spent most of one without internet, one of those not really in front of a computer for a bit and one of those actively doing jobhunting. 10% is not that high a barrier either.
All it requires is the ability not to care about posting crap occasionally.
-

you just have to get 40 more posts/month go break into the 10% club. that's a little over one extra post/day on average
not hard says the vixen who averages 1.5k eligible posts/month
-
All it requires is the ability not to care about posting crap occasionally.
That's the thing. I tend to operate on the basis of 'if you don't have anything of value to say keep quiet'.
Partially because in real life I'm just a bit too slow to get a word in edgewise.
-
Wait... you're applying the concept of value to comments here?
I'd never make 25% let alone 5% if I applied that here
-

And a long enough tail of users who rarely posts at all.
-
Yes but interestingly enough the long tail occurs on just about any forum that actually managed to get anywhere.
-
Of course, but if the game was "top 25% of those that made 5 (or even a single) post last month", it would be much more difficult.
But then again, there are many other ways of saying that "mine's bigger than your's" so there is no reason to change anything, it would only make it even harder for @PleegWat...
-
Actually I think you'll find it is that way...

again!

In this place, sure, that's a thing. But to be caught by someone who is Stockholm Syndromed into using TRWTF of languages... that's just embarrassing. :P

If you look at the query you'll see that it's only counting people who've posted at least twice in the past month:
HAVING count(*) > 1
Mainly to discount the occasional posters replying to stuff on the front page. People who've posted a single post in the past month:

There are certain types of dump where wiping yourself before and after are strongly advisable. Say, dumps from an Oracle database.
-
the ability not to care about posting crap occasionally
And that's why I won't hit the high percents likely ever. Hell, I couldn't even keep in 25%.
Though, it doesn't help that most of the posts I do make are in the excluded threads.
-
And nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that there are people here with way too much free time that like to spam?
-
That doesn't significantly impact my ability to be in the 25% range, probably only if I wanted to hit 5%, but my own reasons alone prevent that. I've got a lot of abandoned posts.
-
I tend to operate on the basis of 'if you don't have anything of value to say keep quiet'.
So do I. That's not very restrictive for me, though, since everything I say is of great value.
-
Good one. I need to remember that.
-

I've never used Oracle (
foreach (Deity deity in pantheon) { deity.thank(); }
), but from what I've read, I think after, at least, would require more than just wiping. Maybe scrubbing with steel wool. And bleach.
-
And use half a gallon of perfume to cover the smell?
-
Maintaining proper distance and abstraction is definitely advised.
I have worked in oracle. From C. Which is not a pretty interface to work with.
-
foreach (
Deityvar deity in pantheon) { deity.thank(); }this i'm going to have to remember.
-
the ability not to care about posting crap
Uh yes, you do have shown us that capability
-
'if you don't have anything of value to say keep quiet'.
Don't.
See? That hardly counts as a valuable reply doesn't it?
-
You get my drift.
