That boss fight was like 45 minutes of confused fumbling around-- I'm still not entirely sure how to tell when each character can damage the boss, but I somehow won it so. Whatever.
I should feel relieved but I just feel sad and... ache-y.

Awesome.

I should feel relieved but I just feel sad and... ache-y.
Made me think of this.

I tried a few minutes of Final Fantasy VII and I'm not sure it's gonna work in this format. Combat's real boring, and none of the dialog is voiced... hm. Oh well, not like anybody watches it anyway.

Horseplop.
An hour of Final Fantasy VII feels like 6 hours. It's like "Tedium: The Game". We'll see how far I get.

Sorry for the low resolution, I haven't used XSplit in a long time and its settings got fucked-up.
-
BTW I set Final Fantasy VII to "private".
Not only is it the World's Most Boring Video Game, it also has like 37 scammers claiming ownership of all its music on ContentID.
EDIT: just in general, if you care, my policy on ContentID is I'd rather remove the video from YouTube than give ad revenue to some scammer who didn't earn it. If the ContentID is a legit one from the original publisher of the game (not that that has ever occurred...) I'd happily share ad revenue with them.
EDIT EDIT: WTF YouTube:
Hi blakeyrat,
Good news! Your dispute wasnโt reviewed within 30 days, so the copyright claim on your YouTube video has now been released by One or more music publishing rights collecting societies.
Video title: "Final Fantasy 7 Stream 4/4/2015"
- The YouTube Team
I just put in the dispute like 10 minutes ago? Ok well it's public again, whatever.
Good job rendering that blockquote, Discourse. I love the random white line across the top.
-
I just put in the dispute like 10 minutes ago?
i'm guessing they goofed the message template and the scammer released the dispute when you disputed it.
as i recall from discussions with other content owners Youtube does assess strikes against copyright claimants who claim content that they do not own the rights to. similar to how they assess the copyright strikes against people who are content producers. that may be why the claimant released the claim.
-

I don't know what "assess strikes" implies here.
They certainly don't remove the scammers from ContentID.
similar to how they assess the copyright strikes against people who are content producers. that may be why the claimant released the claim.
Right; scammers always (almost always) release the claim the instant it's made. Duh. Why would they want a spotlight shown on their obviously immoral activity?
They still get gobs of cash from people who upload YouTube videos and never check-back on their channel.
-
I don't know what "assess strikes" implies here.
it's supposed to be the counterpart to the uploader system. it's supposed to stop fraudulent claims by penalizing people who make fraudulent claims.
but of course it doesn't work because as you noted:
They certainly don't remove the scammers from ContentID.
and even if they did remove the scammer the scammer would just sign up again under a different identity
-
BTW I set Final Fantasy VII to "private".
Why did you rename Tifa Spidereye? Why Spidereye, of all things?
-
I don't remember anymore, but it was probably based on whatever image of her was on the screen at the time it asked me to name her.
I can only assume she had creepy spider-eyes at the time.
-
it's supposed to be the counterpart to the uploader system. it's supposed to stop fraudulent claims by penalizing people who make fraudulent claims.
I don't believe they even do it.
-
Spidereye!
It's a complete coincidence I ran across this today, I'm sure.
-
Look, I'm telling ya I wouldn't have named her spidereye unless she had a fucking spidereye.
Look at those weird-ass eyes. No way those are human eyes.
EDIT: and I want you to know I had to rewatch that video to remember who Tifa was and it reminded me of HOW BORING THAT GODDAMNED GAME IS.
-
Look at those weird-ass eyes. No way those are human eyes.
Oh, I thought there were like eyelashes that made you think spider+eye. You didn't even make a crack about her eyes, just wham, oh, i'll name her spidereye. I thought maybe it might've been some kind of running gag, like Spoiler Warning and Reginald Cuthbert.
HOW BORING THAT GODDAMNED GAME IS.
Had you never played a Final Fantasy game before? The more computing power they had available, the more their games turned into movies and the less actual gaming there was. It was also kind of funny listening to your commentary, like not knowing what limit breaks are and shit. They're just a powerful attack on some kind of timer. I think in some versions, the more damage you take, the more powerful your breaks are or something.
-
Well I didn't read the manual or anything, so I don't know how I'd be expected to know what something called a "limit break" is. Or what "limit break" means. Or what "limit" is being "broken". I'm gonna do more Kerbal.
And BTW, movies are a LOT more entertaining. Well, most of them.

Oh, you're one of those types, the ones who hit Apply right before hitting OK.
-
Clicking 'Apply' to apply settings? Where will this craziness end? Next thing you know, we'll be clicking 'Reply' to reply to forum posts! And in that way, only madness liesโฆ
-
Clicking 'Apply' to apply settings?
You never need to click Apply on a multi-tab dialog box. You particularly don't need to click it right before you click OK. Next you'll tell me you believe the walk button at intersections actually does something!
-
You never need to click Apply on a multi-tab dialog box
Lucky you; the rest of us has to use software that actually exists.
@FrostCat said:You particularly don't need to click it right before you click OK
So you've never used a dialog where the OK button hasn't been wired up to Apply as well? Because that happens.
-
So you've never used a dialog where the OK button hasn't been wired up to Apply as well? Because that happens.
If you're seeing such a dialog, it's coded wrong. Apply is to accept the changes on one tab before switching to a different one. It's like OK except it doesn't close the dialog.
That's right out of Microsoft's guidance from nineteen ninety frickin' five.
-
If you're seeing such a dialog, it's coded wrong
And as we all know, nothing is ever coded wrong, and all software is totally free of bugs, and works perfectly all the time. Also, one drug will cure all known diseases, every politician is honest and honourable, and there's no such thing as poverty or starvation. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to feed my griffin, groom my unicorn, and interview a centaur for the position of nightclub bouncer.
-
Oh, you're one of those types, the ones who hit Apply right before hitting OK.
I've played enough buggy video games before to know to not trust the OK button.
I also quit and restart the game when I get the settings how I want them, because I know from experience there's a 75% chance the game will crash and then my settings will be lost.
You never need to click Apply on a multi-tab dialog box.
You obviously did not play the same 90s/early 00s video games I did.
-
You obviously did not play the same 90s/early 00s video games I did.
Well, that's the Source engine. (Also I was thinking in the more general Windows context.)
-
Well, that's the Source engine.
Maybe this specific game got it right.
That doesn't change the fact that I don't trust games, especially older games, to get it right.
If you have any real commentary on the stream, I'd be happy to hear it.
-
If you have any real commentary on the stream, I'd be happy to hear it.
Maybe it's because I am seeing it after the fact but it seemed like you were missing some things. I've seen other people do this too--I don't know if you watch Spoiler Warning, but they just did part of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct. If you saw that, there as a point where they ran right past a tire they needed a handful of times and never noticed it--you did that a couple of times, or similar things, like having trouble finding the right door out of a room. I was also wondering why, when you were doing the ghoul chase scene, you never tried to shoot at it.
I noticed once when you shot a guard, one of the first ones you killed after you got the bow, you more or less got him in the crotch.
Is it me, or did those guards attacking you look just like the city guards? Is that explained later on? I never played that game and I haven't watched the second video you did.
-
Maybe it's because I am seeing it after the fact but it seemed like you were missing some things.
I dunno if you watch RITN but I'm well-known for looking at exactly the thing the game doesn't want me looking at.
Legendary has tons of these carefully-animated set-pieces-- I had my camera aimed in the opposite direction for almost every one of them.
BTW I never found whatever secret thing the candelabra sockets into before leaving that area.
I was also wondering why, when you were doing the ghoul chase scene, you never tried to shoot at it.
Because the bow takes like 7 seconds to draw and I didn't know if letting the crystal get too far away was an instant game-over or not.
Is it me, or did those guards attacking you look just like the city guards?
I guess they're just hired mercenaries.
In the second video, I do a really boring "defend the gangplank" thing, then get sent to Orc Island where the game's difficulty goes up like 57 notches for some reason and I die a lot. I'll do more later.
Still have no clue what I was doing wrong with those flying squid things.
-
I dunno if you watch RITN but I'm well-known for looking at exactly the thing the game doesn't want me looking at.
I've seen a couple of videos that you linked here but I don't follow the channel. Not as much time for watching videos as I'd like.
BTW I never found whatever secret thing the candelabra sockets into before leaving that area.
I was wondering. I just googled it. Apparently you put it on the opposite side of the fireplace to get another secret area.
Because the bow takes like 7 seconds to draw
I thought it was most likely to be something like that.
-
Apparently you put it on the opposite side of the fireplace to get another secret area.
The fireplace in the same room? Fuck. I didn't even think of looking there.
-
Next you'll tell me you believe the walk button at intersections actually does something!
It depends on how the intersection's configured -- I have seen intersections where if you didn't push Walk, you wouldn't get a minor-street call 'til the next car on the minor-street approaches tripped the sensor, or a pedestrian green on that cycle for that matter...

More Dark Messiah. GIANT ANT ATTACK! (Not video game ants.)
-
We're processing this video. Check back later.
Sorry about that.
Will try again later.
-
Yeah I post the links as soon as YouTube generates them, it takes YT an hour or so to process a video. Sometimes much longer.
-
It's available now, at 360p at least.
YouTube always processes the shittiest resolution first. Because YouTube was designed by morons, and it wants to make sure your subscribers see the absolutely worst-quality video.
-
It doesn't notify your subscribers until the video is done processing.
-
It doesn't notify your subscribers until the video is done processing.
It pops off the tweet the instant the 240p version is available, are you saying it treats YouTube subscribers differently than the notifications via Twitter and Google+?
That's almost worse.
-
-
I take it you're enjoying the game, with 4 streams.
-
Yeah I plan to finish it unless it gets really suddenly shitty.
Not like Final Fantasy VII which is a legendary snooze-fest.
