@dcon Yeah, I've never quite understood why these are primitive units and what's wrong with watts (optionally per square meter or per steradian).
-
@dcon Steradian is a 3D measurement of angle, analogous to radians for 2D angles. Just as there are 2π radians in a circle, there are 4π steradians in a sphere.
-
@dkf Also, a lumen is approximately like a watt, except that it depends on a model of how light is absorbed by the human eye that is complex enough that it's easier for it to be its own unit.

That actually makes sense. I just had never heard that term before.

They're mostly only used when measuring fluxes (i.e., flows or things conceptually similar) of stuff in free space. They come up when studying stuff like magnetism and plasma physics, but don't make much of an appearance in normal life except for light. Radiant heat would also use it, except most people don't really measure that so carefully (and prefer convection heating as being more efficient in an atmosphere and gravitational field).

Why the fuck are you adding steps to the process and making things harder for yourself? Who told you to copy shit out of the template and save a separate file? Why did you send the blank template as an attachment with the text file aside it?
THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE?!?
You would think "Open file, change all the red text, hit send" would be pretty braindead.

Like, yes, I get it, you have the instructions. You are clearly not following them, but please stop embarrassing everyone else, I beg!

After reading the contents of your post... I have come to the conclusion that you may be rationally incensed.
status gah, the new people all have accents. Interesting things to do but I barely understand a word they say.

Status another Tuvix meme on star trek shit posting. These people act like they have never watched "The Measure of a Man".

Status: Finally captured the Riddler in Arkham City, marking the end of the side quests. I'd finished the main story a week ago.
Now I can try playing Arkham Knight with its patches and on a machine that should be able to handle it pretty well. I played it on release before, having bought it before they pulled it from sale to fix problems in the PC version. It was...mostly playable.

Status: Wanted a wireless Android Auto adapter. Got something called "Carlinkit" off Amazon. And it doesn't work. It doesn't open any of the menus that it's supposed to open when plugging in. Did some more googling and it turns out I've got a counterfeit. A $60 counterfeit Carlinkit. I never even heard the name Carlinkit before and they're already making counterfeits.

The accent of Newhouse, UK? That's terrible, yes.
But, you are irish... So, do you mean the new people speak English in a way BBC newsreaders used to do a couple of decades ago?

The first two are among the most impenetrable English accents I know (including those of various call centres in India and the utterances of South African Boers). The Brummie accent is quite understandable... but just terrible.

@dkf said in The Official Status Thread:
Glaswegians
It was exactly the Kelvinside area where I got confronted with UK accents for the first time. I was glad that on our side was an Englishman who could translate - to standard english.
After several months, I spoke english with a terrible accent too, and was able to hear the differences between Kelvinside and Morningside...
-
@dkf no idea what those are, but I find Scottish to be entirely incomprehensible.

@topspin Glaswegians are from Glasgow, Scotland. Don't know about the others; the guy from Star Trek didn't, to my knowledge, have any kind of UK accent

@hungrier Geordies are from Newcastle in England and Brummies are from Birmingham in England.

Not yet, but after 15min of looking at the docs, I still don't see how it can scale horizontally with stateful transformers and repartitioning.

Status: I downloaded a new version of a dependency. Compiling under linux: cmake, make, done in literally 3 minutes. Now compiling under Windows ...
cmake ... crap, I didn't specify a generator, it appears to have created Visual Studio project files. Sigh, double click that shit. 3 minutes of splash screen. "Welcome to Visual Studio. Sign In | Not now, maybe later". Click "maybe later". It wants me to select an appearance ("Blue", "Blue (Extra Contrast)", "Dark", "Light") and a mode ("General", "C++", "web crap" etc.) I keep the default "Blue" and click ok to fucking start it already. It shows some window telling me it's getting ready for first use and this can take a few minutes. More waiting ...
It again wants me to sign in, only this time the only other option is "Exit Visual Studio". Why can't I use a local application anymore without constantly signing in to something?
Next it asks me "you're opening a project, do you trust its source?", which I mismiss with the "yes, fuck off" button that should be there. 30 seconds of churning, it asks again, to which I click "don't ask for other projects in this solution." It appears to have finally opened and the UI is in dark theme! You stupid fucker, why did you even ask?I finally click build, hoping to be able to exit this dumb shit again soon, and everything fails with:
The build tools for v143 (Platform Toolset = 'v143') cannot be found. To build using the v143 build tools, please install the v143 build tools. Alternatively, you may upgrade to the current Visual Studio tools by selecting the Project menu or right-click the solution, and then selection "Retarget solution".
FFS, just build the damn thing already with the C++ compiler you ship and which I've used from the command line just fine! And of course, there is no "retarget solution" option in either the project menu or the right-click popup.
Fuck this retarded Microsoft shit, I'm going home now.

First pick a DB. Sadly.
I can put you in contact with the person who likely has had to do the most with the least, I've worked with a former support lead for CA Ingres. If you can immediately understand all you need to from the phrase "slice 'n' dice", then there is no need.
