How does the username matching thingy work?
-
I think that is again dependent on the forum if the long name is BELGIUM! or something sensible like a real name. Here the long names have no place because most really like to hide their person/work.
-
It's a benign issue, cause username matches always appear first.

I don't use github for anything other than souce control and documentation. Github is not a 'social' place.
I would only expect a match on strict username.

Just because you don't communicate with people using your souce code on GitHub doesn't mean other people don't.
For example, if I want to say something to Jeff Atwood but I don't know his username on GitHub, I can start typing
@jeff
and go "oh, someone must have sniped his username and never used that account. That's why I didn't know his username."

Because peoples names are more unique than user names in most instances.

This topic is boring me now. Here is a video of a penguin slipping on ice.

That way @astute suggests @Nagesh which is the only sane thing to do.
So we can game the username lookup with a cloud attack so that we show up in random @mention searches? Sweet. So now @mentionenter autocompletes to me... and @codingwhorror too ;)
