The likes topic is a barrier to reading the badge page

Just sayin...
-
Bug: I'm not on there.
-
-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA <be />
-
Looks fine to me, it only impacts two topics which were just popularity contests anyway.
Wait. How are there only 128 'Received a like' badges?
-
-
Yeah, we know this wouldn't happen on a real DC installation because we know we would stress test it harder than real users because some of us fall into various definitions of pedantic dickweed.
-
-
what's with the requiring words in the url when the ID takes you to the same place no matter what words are there anyway?

Very nice Sam :) that covers the basics...Now one of the admins is going to have to stir up some trouble and get creative.
Can you assign me the example badge? In fact, it would be funny if everyone was assigned that badge as a WTF badge.
Example of what? ....exactly.
-
Bug: no 'pedantic dickweed' badge.
Better question: how do users see what badges they have? Presumably there's going to be something in the profile area (because if there is, I've currently missed it)
-
badges will be enabled here shortly, cause the new default is badges enabled :) shows up in profile.
lots of work left though to tie up this feature.
-
I rather think the page is a barrier to reading. Wouldn't it be smarter to group those per user or per topic instead of the infiniscrolly.
-
I will add a user filter, so you can see "only a particular users badges" but but but ... one topic generating a gazzilion badges is not something that I really should be designing for

See the 'Aside' section at the end.

You've got the profiles. You've got the numbers. You've got the badges (or there wouldn't be the badges pages). What lots of work left can there be?

"The likes topic is a barrier to reading the badge page"
Just sayin...
On the other hand, without The Official "Likes" Thread, the "Good Post" page would be empty.
-
It's not that its wrong, its more that on tdwtf likes mean 2 things.
- Something, if you are not on the likes topic
- Nothing, if you are on the likes topic
So special case central.
-

Lots of polish is still needed, backfill can do a better job at maintaining dates. Lots of badges need to be implemented (sharing badges are missing, and a bunch of others)

Not yet. [The Official "Likes" Thread][1] does not show up in "Great Posts".Filed under: unfortunately, those already involved in [The Official "Likes" Thread][1] can't change that.

Like I said: proudly doing it wrong!
So no chance of getting a 'Doing it wrong' batch ?
-
-
Only if I am allowed to name it
'doing it wrnog
batch`
Can we have " frist" badge, too? For "most topics answered as first viewer"?

'doing it wrnog batch`
Hmm I'm starting to mess up my right (work) screen with my left (this) to the right I'm handling issues with batch processing ($DEITY might kill all those batches!) and on the left it said badges.
But then again there is something strangely appropriate for a TDWTF badge that is WRONG.
-
Just get rid of the badges already. I didn't participate in the likes topic and now I feel unpopular. I want that feature gone.

I didn't participate in the likes topic
You can still enter. Just start at the top en scroll down. 2300 likes later you're done. Easy!
-
I didn't participate in the likes topic and now I feel unpopular
If I compare your measly 15 "likes received" against my whopping 3055 received likes I can understand that sentiment.Filed under: Not taking part in The Official "Likes" Thread is a barrier to getting liked.

Don't rub it you'll only make it bigger.
Might I ask why you're trying to make it bigger?
-
@sam, could you create a way to exclude the likes page from being counted towards badges?
I've thought of the following 3 options so far...
Quick and dirty: Explicitly exclude the likes thread from counting towards badges
More effort: Have an admin option where an admin can mark a topic so it doesn't count towards badges
More effort: Write a naive metric to detect like abuse to exclude topics from counting towards badges
What do you think? Has anyone got any simpler or better ideas that could work?

More general solution:
Have an admin option to prevent topics in a category from counting towards badges, then move the likes topic and any other appropriate topics into it.
I vote we call the category:
Barriers To Reading
For topics that don't share @codinghorror's vision of how a forum should work.In the general case, for forums with normal people, it would just be applied to a category for spammy topics with less moderation.

Because I'm curious how such a small bird can sport a dragon sized zizi.
I bet @the_dragon also wonders.

I'm not sure if I want to see the results of that...

I really like that idea :-) It's simple and snarky; a perfect fit!
-
For topics that don't share @codinghorror's vision of how a forum should work.
Such topics can be "closed" as has happened here quite recently.Filed under: And you can't like in closed topics.
-
The Likes thread is currently under meta and in any other forum it wouldn't be tolerated there.
-

I think @DoctorJones was looking for a solution where people could still play around and not have it influence achievements like badges. I find it unlikely that the devs will implement something like that though, because it's probably unnecessary on most forums.
-
I was more trying to draw attention to that particular topic, I'm afraid ;-)

I'll let you off this once...
Also, weirdly, I thought you were @PJH. I need more visual cues than just avatars and usernames to identify people it seems.

I think it's more of a mental blockage than a visual impairment. Alternatively, maybe the talk about your e-peen and @PJH's avatar of two stunning balls got conflated in my head.
