Poll: Cornify - what else would make sense?
-
Also I'm pretty sure the question was "protected".
I could have "improved" the question and added it as a note to the same effect though. But that's an even weirder workaround.
-
Can I create a poll between all possible polls?
-
Where's @chubertdev and his Infini-Poll(TM) when you need him?
-
I'm on vacation right now
-
That's wonderfully discoverable, and rather a bit of a barrier to participation.
Given the that some people try to “participate” with, SO needs that barrier.
-
Except the people that post the worst aren't stopped by that barrier.
In other news, use jQuery. It will solve all your problems.

You should see what gets deleted; some is just terrible.

jQuery is like
ebola
regular expressions. If you have a problem, it will solve it and create more problems in its wake.
-
I'm sure a lot of it is terrible, if what's left is anything to go by.
Yes, the whole jQuery thing is snark on my part; I've seen way too many 'doing x in JavaScript' questions answered with jQuery when native JS can do it in the same number of lines, or more frequently less (even excluding jQuery's actual body itself)
Regular expressions are, like anything, a tool. You can do an extreme amount of damage with them. But so can you with any other tool.

I think the whole jQuery thing is just the SO version of one of our stupid memes, and I was trying to cross-breed it with jwz's Dictum on Regular Expressions. And failed at doing that. It's Friday. I must be tired.
-
Unfortunately, unlike our memes, people there believe it.
-
Hate JQuery. I think it's the dollar signs more than anything.

It's not as if you have to use them.

The examples all do :P
Yes, it's kinda their trademark. But it's really only a shortcut to jQuery() and the $ prefix for variables is just convention.I don't use $ in one project, so it looks like
var divs = jQuery('div');

Not as much as you might think. Right now, the deletionists are in charge. No Fun Allowed.
-
If the deletionists are in charge, how come http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/251524/how-can-stack-overflow-users-be-encouraged-to-use-jquery-only-when-appropriate isn't encouraged more?
-
Well, clearly someone needs to make an appropriate meta post encouraging the "appropriate jQuery encouragement" encouragement question.
Filed under: """appropriate jQuery encouragement" question" encouragement question" encouragement post.
-
And this is why I distrust StackOverflow.

We aren't allowed to use $prefixed variables in JS because it could confuse someone with Perl variables.
-
Perl on the web? The bad ideas thread is that way.

I can understand that - as I develop with Perl for the backend, if I use the $ notation in Javascript I declare Javascript variables with "my" instead of "var" far too often...
