E-mail notifications (don't work)

  • Ah, right. I had already forgot about that sockpuppet...

  • I'm now getting notifications completely randomly (and only some of them). Eg. in the DARPA autocomplete thread (which I started), I got notification about @blakeyrat's post, but no others.

  • Discourse touched me in a no-no place

I got PM spam earlier due to a bot related bug, but not a single email notification despite that being the only type of notification I have enabled, and me not having the browser window open.

Unless I fell foul of the very vague "recently" mentioned above.

Just a reminder that Discourse won't mail you if you have been active on the site in the last 15 minutes.

If you want to turn that off, check the "Do not suppress.." option pictured above.

that explains why i never get emails on this account. my cyborg side keeps tripping the last seen button to under 15 minutes...

I suspected the previously unexplained recently was responsible. Fair enough, then, I guess.
Is "recently = 15 minutes" explained somewhere that I've missed?

We should make the copy on that page that says 'recently' use the exact number from the site settings..

    would appreciate that. thanks!

I've got that option checked, but the mails still arrive very rarely (for some reason, I did get notification for several - but not all - messages in this thread, but I'm still missing notifications from other threads).

  • ...and after getting most mails for a while, I'm again getting only digests...

  • I got one (1) notification today (for the systemd thread)...

Yes, I see digests going to you for previous days, and one "user_replied" email sent to you 7 discohours ago.

View source on any email from Discourse and look for SPF and DKIM records. If those are good (you see "pass" or "accept", etc) then that's as good as it gets for email deliverability. Those are the gold standards; DKIM is public/private key signing so you absolutely know the email came from where it said it did.

Weird-ass spam filters on the receiving server or client side can and do interfere. Email is a well that has been thoroughly poisoned, so there's a lot of moving parts..

I just sent a test email via admin/test and I see this in the headers:

    Received-SPF: pass (google.com: domain of bounce-md_30152208.5474432a.v1-c427c36558954b4596d08441f998fcf0@mandrillapp.com designates 205.201.131.131 as permitted sender) client-ip=205.201.131.131;

So I think something between you and Mandrill is altering the emails in some way.

  • That's not really a problem - the problem is that most messages I should be getting never even reach the mail server I'm using.

  • ♿ (Parody)

Here's a summary recent email sent to you:

  • Hm, looks like I misunderstood something about e-mail notifications. How do I set Discourse to send me notifications for all threads that I replied in (or maybe just opened), but not threads that I haven't visited?

  • FoxDev

    i don't think that's an option...

you could check that receive all box, but then you would get all...

  • ...I have to reply to this topic again - I'm again missing some notifications, and those that do arrive have no content in the HTML part.

  • @ender said:

    It's not just me?
