Toto: block ads, buy tv dongle, use it to play 80s rock

In the end, I'm not sure your HDMI cable is cheaper.
Keeps me from seeing Chromecast ads, though, apparently.
-
My computer is not always on, my phone and tablet are.
Also, I can stream any movie from my NAS since the Chromecast is DLNA compatible.

that was rather my point. ;-)

Not that I cast Youtube often, but I don't remember viewing an ad on it.
Maybe it's just my brain that is AdBlock enabled

Well @accalia's the one who seems to be getting extra ads on it. So it may be "cheaper" than that HDMI cable, but apparently there's a tradeoff.

But you're punishing the wrong person!
No she's not. She's not punishing anyone. She's making a conscious choice not to watch long ads.<edit> She
-
But she wouldn't have to watch the long ads if she just USED A NORMAL OUT OF THE BOX PC TO WATCH THE ADS instead of buy Google's shitty defective equipment.

So what you're saying is she should use a computer, like you, and skip the ads, like you, BECAUSE THATS WHAT DICKS DO, amirite? As opposed to tolerating a certain amount of less obtrusive advertising, which is frankly more than a lot of people, self included, are willing to tolerate.
I don't skip ads on youtube. I block them entirely. On sites, too. Even sites that are ad supported. Not because I'm a dick (although I am), but because - well - fuck ads with a big pole. I adblock an awful lot of stuff, stuff that isn't ads, even.

Huh?
Did you read any of this thread?

You're a dick.
You know that and I know that.
But at least you're not coming in here spreading some grade-A fertilizer about "oh this is a protest against societal norms and blah blah" bullshit to justify being a dick. I hate that shit.

Yes. Did you?
@accalia said:My ad blocking rules are actually pretty simple:

don't annoy me with the ad and i'll let it show.
To which you said...
@blakeyrat said:Wow you're a dick.
and accused her of punishing the wrong people. Then went off on one with somewhinge about being able to skip ads after 30 seconds on a "normal" browser and not on Chromecast.

FWIW, if you're casting to the Chromecast from the YouTube app on mobile, I think it does sync the fact that there's an ad playing, and has a button to skip it on the mobile device.
Of course, this is entirely dependent on keeping your device awake for that, so it's still rather inconvenient at best.
