Dunno if it was already posted here, but this story is good

@FrostCat No, Belizean government killed his neighbor when they tried to kill him or something.
Oh, that's a good conspiracy theory and sounds like something he might say!
It is something he said:
Thus began a war between myself and the government of Belize that went on until October of 2012, when my neighbor was murdered. To this day I believe the target was myself, and that the incompetence of the government caused the assassins to enter the wrong house.
-
To be fair, we're talking about the word of an elderly man who's taken way too many drugs in his lifetime and whose name is synonymous with an antivirus that's so bad that its creator should be shot, vs. the word of a corrupt government of a third-world hellhole whose officials should be lined up next to him and also shot... as judged by a bunch of people who can't decide which to loathe and disbelieve more.
-
McAfee is the VERY DEFINITION of "unreliable narrator". I think all this shit took place in his brain-paranoia caused by decades of drug abuse. It makes you paranoid.

That's not fair to say, he hates that antivirus, that was sold a long time ago, this is something he said about it:
It’s become the worst piece of SW on the planet. You cannot uninstall, scans all the time, slow as shit, I’d have fired them, thank goodness I’ve freed from association with that.

not while they use your name you have not.....

-
@accalia It's called "Intel Security" now
-
@groo Yeah... WTF was Intel thinking there?
-
@groo That's exactly what I'd say if my name was attached to that steaming pile.
Doesn't make him any less culpable for it, though.
-
@anotherusername I don't remember if it turned to shit after or before he sold it, but when he invented it was a very important piece of software.
-
JOHN McAFEE is so fucking mental he is someone that needs to exist in the world. Someone that just does what the fuck they want but I don't think for a second he is a bad guy ... he just sees the world a different way.
The Strippers / Hookers and Cock Youtube ad was just like "this is all what you think of me ... lets have some fun with it". Shows that the guy is quite self aware.
-
@groo Indeed. It was much better than Norton was. I haven't followed them much, but it seems McAfee took Norton's place as worst antivirus by usability...?
-
@djls45 All anti-virus is shit.

He probably sold his name so he can keep on receiving royalty checks, pretty smart if he did this.

The way I remember it, they were more or less tied for the absolute worst ever, which position they jointly held by a pretty safe margin.

@blakeyrat the things he say are pretty common ocurrences in the 3rd world. if you have a lot of money and a problem with drugs and prostitutes, be prepared to pay a lot of bribes
-
@anotherusername Right there at the bottom of your picture it also says "McAfee is part of Intel Security".
-
@groo Even without that. If you assume his story of running a rival out of business and refusing to pay bribes is even partially true, he would've earned the the attention of a corrupt government.
At least, that's what I learned from Hollywood trailers, like the new Luke Cage one!

-
@FrostCat Good Trailer.
-
@lucas1 I know. They even managed to get in one shot of him wearing the goofy 70s-style metal head- and wristbands the original version of the character used.
-
@FrostCat I kinda like when they do that nod to the original material. It is saying "look guys we have changed some stuff but we haven't forgotten about it".
-
@lucas1 Eh. Fuck Disney. Is my attitude towards most of Marvel right now. And Star Wars.
Fuck Disney.
-
@blakeyrat Why?
Avengers, Capt 2, Capt 3 were all really decent movies. Iron Man 2 & 3 was shit, so was Thor 2 (I really like Thor because it was basically a squabble about a throne and some over powered jock had to learn how to not be a dick and it had fappable Natalie Portman). Avengers 2 was Avengers 1 again ... so it was a bit meh. Ant-man was pretty decent. Most of the movies are pretty good, and the worst are watchable. Fuck I even like the Hulk Reboot which that everyone forgot about.
The DC universe is pretty iffy at the moment, Suicide Squad was alright (Harley Quinn and Will Smith saved that movie). Superman vs Batman was good if you watched the extended version (much like Watchmen , the theatrical cut was shit but the directors cut was good).
Force Awakens was a good movie, it was the first Star Wars movie again for sure ... but they had to play it a little safe. Be faithful to the fans and get new people interested in the new movies. There wasn't anything bad about the new Star Wars movie.
-
@lucas1 said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:

Yes, but it didn't carry the franchise forward in any way, thematically.
-
@lucas1 said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:

Except that its pretty much an exact copy of A New Hope.
-
@FrostCat They couldn't. They had to do a decent movie first that will appeal and tbh I think they could do another Empire Strikes back movie now. Which would be awesome. I liked Empire because it was about a things going to shit and people dealing with it.
My Dad is a hardcore Starwars / Trek fan (I am a Trekkie for sure but more of Trek is crap as well) and his views were "It was a good movie but it was the first star wars over again".

I agreed with your post up until this point.
There's so much to criticize about TFA that it's difficult to know where to start. The ham-handed killing of one of the universe's favorite characters? The incompetent and whiny villain? The protagonist that can suddenly do the Jedi mind trick with no formal training? The fact that the entire movie is more or less a scene-by-scene remake of ANH? That Mark Hamill only had ~30 seconds of screen time?
I'm a firm believer in that there are only five Star Wars movies. But, Rogue One looks interesting.
-
@Erufael
I said ...Force Awakens was a good movie, it was the first Star Wars movie again for sure
-
@lucas1 Ah. Your meaning was unclear to me there.
-
- Emo Darth Vader is alright (Kylo Ren). I like he is un-balanced.
- Harrison Ford is in his 70s, he can't and probably doesn't want to do any more movies.
- I hope they clear up the jedi mind trick stuff, I think she was a survivor of Luke's Jedi temple that was attacked by Emo Darth Vader when Luke was away.
- I Don't doubt it was a remake of sorts, but they needed not to fuck it up. I liked the Nazi style theme to the empire and the fact that Flynn never had a name and he broke away from what is kinda of a nazi cult.
- Mark Hamill will be in the next ones for sure as a fully powered up and wise Luke ... I will look forward to that.
-
The only thing that McAfee told the truth about in that article was his name. At least, I'm pretty sure it's his real name, at any rate.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't. Or if I were to learn he's never set foot in either Belize or the US. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that he never really existed at all, actually.
-
It is pretty well documented that his name is his name and he was in both countries when he claimed he was in both countries.
Considering they found his whereabouts via photo meta data.
-
@lucas1 said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:
They couldn't.
Well, they actually could have, but that would've required not playing it safe, and Disney's not about not playing it safe.
I'm not complaining, as such. I'm guessing one reason Blakey might not have liked the movie. He doesn't like derivative or copycat stuff.
-

Did you not read the New Jedi Order series? They killed Chewbacca and two of Han's kids!
@Groaner said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:

Asshole movie and tv-makers love them some cliffhangers. I'm not going to single this movie out for that.
-
@lucas1 said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:

Well, he already killed his own father, so he's going to have a tougher time at redemption in Episode 9, presuming that that's the plan for him.
- Harrison Ford is in his 70s, he can't and probably doesn't want to do any more movies.
Doesn't matter. I expected him to be that scruffy-looking nerf herder until his flesh fails him. Clint Eastwood did the whole action hero thing in Gran Torino in his 80's, so age isn't the best of excuses anyway
- I hope they clear up the jedi mind trick stuff, I think she was a survivor of Luke's Jedi temple that was attacked by Emo Darth Vader when Luke was away.
It certainly would be one of the better fan theories, unlike some that suggest she's Kenobi's granddaughter or something.
- I Don't doubt it was a remake of sorts, but they needed not to fuck it up. I liked the Nazi style theme to the empire and the fact that Flynn never had a name and he broke away from what is kinda of a nazi cult.
Sort of like the Nazi undertones in the original trilogy? But I will agree that Finn is one of the more interesting characters for that reason.
- Mark Hamill will be in the next ones for sure as a fully powered up and wise Luke ... I will look forward to that.
He better be. RotJ came out the year I was born, and I've been waiting for something like that for a long time.
-
Oh, I know, I was exaggerating, but the fact is that he's been pretty squirrelly from the day he first made a name for himself.
BTW, were either of his parents US citizens when he was born? According to Wicked-Pedo he was born in the UK, but it doesn't say anything about his US citizenship, and from what little I know it's consistent with his own statements. I assume at least one of them was, or the LP wouldn't have let him put his name on their nomination ballot. You can bet that this won't stop some idiot from pulling the Birther shit on him, and it hardly matters given that he didn't get nominated (and, well, it's a third party in the US, he'd have a better chance of successfully staging a coup and naming himself Emperor).

Kind of strange, though. In The Clone Wars, the troopers didn't have names per se, but they all had nicknames that served the same purpose.
-

The way I interpreted the parts about her background was that she was abandoned by her parents on Jakku and had spent her whole life there. But maybe I missed something.
- I liked the Nazi style theme to the empire
Eh, IMO, it was over the top. I kinda found the old style of the Empire more interesting, where they weren't really out to be evil just for the sake of it. Blowing up planets wasn't their purpose, but rather a means to an end. Also, the Emperor/Vader never had to hold over-the-top speeches (or any at all) for their troops. They were the de-facto power in the empire, but they didn't have to go around and show it.
I wouldn't say the movie was bad or anything, it just was ... uninteresting. Uninspired. Polished to the point where it appeals to the largest possible group of people, but also a bit boring.

Everyone's nostalgic for the past. In Star Wars Rebels, old clone troopers repeatedly mocked the stormtroopers.

Not G-canon, can safely ignore. It was the Wild West before someone like Leland Chee came around to manage the continuity.
-
@Groaner said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:

That's not the point, though. Killing Han isn't some new outrage, it's something that was already done, and in the main book continuity, not fanfic.
-
Clint Eastwood did the whole action hero thing in Gran Torino in his 80's, so age isn't the best of excuses anyway
He did some badass things in that movie, but the whole point of the movie that how he worked was so at odds with the rest of the world and running out of time.
He sacrificed himself so the younger generation could have it better, after he fucked up trying to be a tough guy and made things worse. The whole film was that he was out of touch but kinda racist / but not racist and he didn't understand really what was going on until he killed himself via gang shooting.
-
@lucas1 said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:
Why?
I don't like huge unquestioned gigantocorps.
I don't fault Pixar, or Lucas, or Marvel for selling-out. (And, hell, Marvel didn't really have a choice, it was that or disintegrate.) But why did they all have to sell out to the same gigantocorp that was already far too big?
Pixar could have easily found film distribution without Disney-- Disney's no monopoly there, there's already 5-6 production companies that could have provided this for them. They could have merged with any of those.
Lucas was probably just lazy and took literally the first offer on the table.
-
@FrostCat said in JOHN McAFEE: Here's what really happened in Belize:
Vader maimed his own son
Except artificial hands are widely available in that universe. One might assume the position that it was an act of love to punish his son for a similar arrogance that led to Vader's own downfall.
and was a mass murderer, including cutting down
childrenyounglings in cold blood, and yet he was redeemed in the end.FTFY
Filed under: Will someone please think of the younglings?
-
@blakeyrat Well that is stupid if they produce something that you would be interested in.
