Don't edit @blakeyrat's topic titles
-
Does ths thread merit yet?
-
And that's not a request for help?
Did he ask for help in his OP or the original title?
-
if there's enough consensus that there's a flamewar for someone to put the tag in the title, I don't really have a problem with it.
I agree. If @blakeyrat wants a -war jeffed from one of his threads, he can flag and ask a mod to move it and remove the icon from his thread's title.
BTW, MODERATORS CAN READ ALL EDITS - and TL4-users (which we don't have right now) can read most.
I know, and I'm neither, so I can't.
-
So I guess we shouldn't reply then, since he obviously didn't make any complaints about the way the forum works and didn't post it in meta?
-
Fuck you.
Also, why not let the moderators handle the thing? It seems like something that could be a job for them.
-
I think someone already tried that.
Although, might be more appropriate
-
See, you're a moderator but you don't have a shield. (But you do have the word "leader" in your little profile pop-up thing. I still don't know what "leader" means.)
How is a person supposed to know this shit? Where did you guys get your telepathic knowledge of what these various icons mean from, exactly? I even looked in the FAQ; it ain't there. Is it in the help page that doesn't exist?
Anyway I'm done making that particular point.
He gave the example of me editing in the marker, but there seems to be a(n informal) community consensus that that isn't abusive.
Sigh. This again.
Look, I don't care that the flame marker got added. I care that it got added without my permission.
That said, I don't at all agree that the IRC thread was a flamewar. But that's a different issue.
or PM the person who made the edit and ask them to knock it off.
I just did that an hour ago; it resulted in him re-making the change out of spite, and this thread.
you opened this thread no? And that's not a request for help?
It's in Meta, not any of the Help threads. It's always been in Meta.
But if there's enough consensus that there's a flamewar for someone to put the tag in the title, I don't really have a problem with it.
It's my thread, and whoever took the vote didn't bother to include me in it.
-
-
And I'm neither, so I can't.
So you shouldn't try to discredit blakeyrat's claims.
We, the mods and admins who run these forums, we can view all the relevant information.
And we're the ones who would take action.
It's not up to you to demand proof.
-
I am the jerkiest asshat that ever jerked, yes.

See, you're a moderator but you don't have a shield.
His is custom, like PJH's is.
I still don't know what "leader" means.

Try hovering over them, dingus. You really are a nightmare for usability. "I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. NEITHER DID THE PROGRAM. PROGRAM IS BROKEN PLS SEND HELP"
That said, I don't at all agree that the IRC thread was a flamewar.
Jesus, I'm pretty sure I told must have told you to fuck off about 300 times and you did the same to me. That's a flamewar, IMO...
It's my thread, and whoever took the vote didn't bother to include me in it.
There is no vote.
-

Doesn't matter whose thread it is. If it's a flame war, it's a flame war.
Nobody else cares if someone puts a freaking emoji in the title.
-
Blakey felt like it was appropriate to include non-mods in this conversation, so I feel like it's appropriate to ask him for supporting details that non-mods can see.

I wouldn't be opposed to that option, actually

wanting to discuss the community runs != asking for help
I'm pretty sure accalia was trying to offer solutions to make the community run better, which is the whole point of talking about problems in the community. else do you have then?
"There's a problem. I don't like it"
"Yeah, this problem exists!"
"No it doesn't!"
"Oh, I experience this problem daily. Yes."

I don't think I've seen any other users assert ownership of threads like this.
It always seemed to be that posts belong to the poster, but threads belong to the community.
-
I just did that an hour ago; it resulted in him re-making the change out of spite, and this thread.
then flag the OP and let the mopds sort it out.
problem solved.
It's in Meta, not any of the Help threads. It's always been in Meta.
it's in meta and suggests changes to the site, i fail to see how that would be anything other than a request for help.you may have a point that you didn't ask me, but i see no validity in your assertion that it was not a request for help.

that's blakey for you.
It always seemed to be that posts belong to the poster, but threads belong to the community.
that was my take on it honestly, but not everyone appears to agree with that.
-
He's both. They are not mutually exclusive. For example, aliceif is just a mod and not an admin. Boomzilla and PJH are mods and admins. Apapadimoulis is just an admin. Admins don't get shields next to their name.

Awesome. So I'm both supposed to telepathically know what all these icons means, but also telepathically know that they change depending on whether you're viewing the user's avatar on the thread or a reply pop-up.
-
You can literally mouse over the icon and it will say "this user is a moderator"

Right; and you're an asshole if you don't check it HOURLY for changes! HOURLY? I mean MINUTELY! CHECK IT NOW!
Apparently. Or maybe just if your username is "blakeyrat".
-
FWIW, this constant title changing gets on my nerves as well. I navigate Dicksauce by scrolling through the big-ass list at what.thedailywtf.com and all I have to decide whether I want to read a thread (again) or not is the title, or my memory of it.
If people change it around, I overlook threads I liked. And open threads I don't like. So even though I am a TL3 and could change my own thread titles back, it still sucks.I know there are different ways to do it, but I don't have the time nor the inclination for learning Jeffs weird wet dream of UI and UX. (And this title editing thing comes from the idea that Dicksauce is a ticket system. That alone should be enough reason to drop it.)
This is probably something that should be considered when migrating off this shitheap, anyway.

Except for the majority of users it's a source of amusement and doesn't cause problems for them.
Reminds me of:
-
Yeah, it can be a little annoying. Usually the thread title is fairly similar though. And in this case, it's identical, just adding a little flame icon.

That's another way of saying "yes".
I... would not push that with @aliceif.

the trust level ones? to the best of my knowledge, no, they are not. although i suppose the edit window could be increased to a couple of months. that would mean most threads will have died a death by then and won't have any more issues with title edits
They are configurable. We have the defaults for TL. Post edit window is roughly 10,000 minutes. That's not a default value.

-
Right; and you're an asshole if you don't check it HOURLY for changes! HOURLY? I mean MINUTELY! CHECK IT NOW!
I never said that.
I'm sorry, I thought it was common knowledge that PJH, boomzilla, abarker, yamikuronue and me were the moderation team.
-

I have the little flame thing, which is custom CSS to change from the shield. It still has the same tooltip, though.

It always seemed to be that posts belong to the poster, but threads belong to the community.
I typed the post, the title is part of the post. I'm not ok with people editing my post without permission (with a few pedantic dickweed exceptions I won't go into right now), so I'm also not ok with people editing my title without permission.
If you don't like the title I typed, you're welcome to start your own thread. But considering my IRC thread got like 190 replies in 12 hours, people seem to like mine pretty well I'd guess.
(Incidentally, Community Server, remember that? Let you change the title of each post independent of the thread's title; that was a pretty great feature.)
it's in meta and suggests changes to the site, i fail to see how that would be anything other than a request for help.
You can see it as whatever you like. Just don't make it sound as if I asked you for help. Because I didn't.

Who (in your opinion) is the jerkiest beef jerky, @boomzilla?

The majority of us TL3 assholes, you mean.
I don't deny it's funny sometimes. I'm just saying it gets on my nerves.and doesn't cause problems for them.

I really liked using that feature in other forums I used to frequent.

I'm so sorry that we need to make the forum for the community cater to two people.

I never said that.
You did say I was an asshole for asking Yami whether her "we" meant "moderators":
Wow, you're an asshole.
So yes, you did kind of say that. Maybe you didn't mean to.
I'm sorry, I thought it was common knowledge that PJH, boomzilla, abarker,
That's common knowledge. It was also announced at some point that they were moderators.
yamikuronue and me were the moderation team.
That's brand-new and was never announced anywhere, as far as I can tell. I don't know why you would think it's "common knowledge" when it was never announced.
But hey, whatever, remember: blakeyrat's always the asshole. That's the important thing, right?
-
Who (in your opinion) is the jerkiest beef jerky, @boomzilla?
The chicken flavored vegetarian ham one, to be sure.

I seem to remember... yes:
indeed.
he's not the only one who objects to off colour topic edits.
you'll notice that in general i'm pretty easy going about the topic edits, i had exactly one objection to that particular title edit.
-
That was so mature! How does one make the moderation team around here? You sure are a fine, upstanding member of our community. Why I never met someone who displayed your level of maturity and levelheadedness in a leadership position.
-
Are you trying to get yourself shadow-banned?
Because this is how you get yourself shadow-banned.
-
That's common knowledge. It was also announced at some point that they were moderators.
I don't think so. That sort of thing usually just happens and eventually people notice.
-
Also, everyone except apparently Blakey can tell that the icon means Moderator, or Staff, or something of that ilk.
