Sql server express installation
-
Ok, I installed SQL Server Express 2014 and SSMS. Apparently I didn't bother with the full-text search, but now I need it. What I've seen on the web says to find the installer in Add/Remove Programs, right-click on it and run a change/modify installation to add/remove features. When I tried to do that I discovered there's like 73 different SQL Server 2014 items. I think I found the right one because it has a wizard that lets me add features, but I don't see FTS in there. Did I maybe get the wrong package to install? FTS is available on Express, isn't it?

FTS should be available on SQL Server Express, but only the installer with Advanced Services contains it:

Express with Advanced Services (SQLEXPRADV_Architecture_Language.exe)
- This package contains all the components of SQL Server Express including the full version of SQL Server 2014 Management Studio. This is a larger download than “with Tools,” as it also includes both Full Text Search and Reporting Services.
The version with FTS appears to be a 1.1GB executable.

Damn. Bet I got the wrong version--I'll try again tonight. DO you think I can download the new version and run that or will I have to uninstall the old version (or just pave the VM and start over?)

I think you can run the Advanced installer and it will act like a repair or manage and let you add FTS.
I had to do it myself with SQL Server 2008, but that was awhile ago and I don't remember which I had to do.

Yes--I just tried. Thanks--it saved me uninstalling and reinstalling it.
