Left click broken again?

Filing under Bug, because I refuse to believe it's a design decision.
Left clicking on that image (in OP if it matters) opens in a new window to

which is a blank screen.Middle clicking actually opens the image as intended.

Repro, FF/Win7. I do not**emphasized text have "Open all external links in a new tab" selected.

left clicking to open in new tab has been broken for ages now.
i raised it a couple of times on meta.d and it wqas always CLOSED WONTFIX
even my suggestion of removing the checkbox if it just broke things was rejected....

True. Still, it's the most innocent assumption to make when Jeffing the category.
