Things have been getting weirder and shittier on reddit. Among many other things:
- SJWs and radical feminists are taking over popular communities, banning everything not politically correct until all existing users have left and turning the place into something completely different. And I know you'll think I'm exaggerating or I'm one of those MRAs who thinks all feminists are evil and calls everyone who disagrees with him a SJW: I'm not, I'm talking about legitimately crazy people who "jokingly" call themselves "the fempire", call everyone else "reactionaries" and are driving people away from existing communities (even /r/LGBT!) with their crazy rules:
- Preemptively banning anyone who posts in any other "blacklisted" subreddits (including places like /r/4chan which is just shitty jokes and greentexts)
- Banning you for using the verb "to bitch", because it's sexist. No really, read this conversation please.
- Making you write a 500 word essay to get unbanned
- Banning you for having a username like "Ilikeasianpeople". Because it's "creepy"
- Banning you for using the word "ass" in a joke
- this
- "General white people nonsense"
- Just generally banning anyone or anything who they feel is wrong, without any attempt at consistent rules
- Using social engineering to get accepted into the moderation team of a subreddit, then kicking all the other moderators and banning the entire community is now common practice. And it doesn't break any rules! You're the new legitimate owner of the place.
- Want to see an example? https://www.reddit.com/r/anonymous
- Actual censorship, like /r/bitcoin mods banning all mentions of a certain bitcoin fork and proposed protocol changes, saying "it's not related to bitcoin at all" and "if 99% of the people here disagree, then I want 99% of people to leave this place"
- An older case: /r/technology (a huge subreddit) used to silently hide any submissions with the word "Tesla", "Bitcoin", "NSA" or "net neutrality"
That's just the tip of the iceberg. I don't think that website can last much longer.

baning the entire community

Double banned.
And I know you'll think I'm exaggerating or I'm one of those MRAs who thinks all feminists are evil and calls everyone who disagrees with him a SJW: I'm not
But shenanigans on reddit are starting to convince you that you're wrong. I'm happier than ever that I've never been associated with that site.

r/chess is mostly free of that kind of shenanigans, and so are the more technically oriented subreddits. You just have to stick with subreddits about objective subject matter.

Your rationalizations have no effect on me.

Photoshopped! That can't be real!
-
There are lots of -porn subreddits that aren't the sexual kind of porn, like /r/graphporn, /r/mapporn, /r/industrialporn, ...
They are only porn in the sense that people get a kick out of the subject matter at hand.
-
I was subscribed to r/chessporn at one point, so I'm familiar with the concept. But now I go to https://www.houseofstaunton.com/ for that sort of thing.
-
Yes, but now imagine that some famous chess player makes some polemic declarations, and a /r/chess mod decides to auto-ban everyone who mentions their name (even if unrelated to what he said), and then people complain about that and he decides to ban anyone who complains about or mentions the mod team, and then things start escalating from there.
That's essentially what's been happened to subreddits for a while now.

I've been on reddit for years, so I know about all that. The only reason I haven't left to go to voat.co is that the chess sub there is dead.
-
I've reverted to mostly just following funny stuff on my RSS feed, and watching the wreck from the sidelines. I've unsubscribed from SRS, and only browse through an occasional link on KIA. I couldn't be happier.

voat.co
I don't know if I have much trust on that website, considering their first decision was "We need to make a website virtually identical to that other one. Should we grab their freely available source code which has probably had thousands of man-hours of debugging and optimising? Nah, let's start from zero again! "
-
Maybe they like bikeshedding?
I think it's a moot point, because no one else is going to switch except the subjects of the shenanigans boomzilla mentioned.

I'm happier than ever that I've never been associated with that site.
I used to waste time arguing with people there until a few years ago. Now I spend my time here
