Default is probably a french word so it makes sense for it to be stressed in the final syllable.
As an addendum to funny things non-native English speakers come up with in English, yesterday an associate of mine told me he had come up with a name for his new startup: CrabsTech.
Imagine his face when I told him what "crabs" actually means in English.

Which meaning? What was he planning to do in the startup? Did it have some other meaning to him (or other French speakers)?

And then there's the way people around here tend to pronounce determine - stress the first syllable, mine as in the separate word.

I'm not French nor an English native speaker, but I meant the uh... pubic sense of the word.
It just sounded cool to him. It means nothing in my native language and he asummed it just meant "more than one crab" in English.
the definition of a crab is a diss to crips because crips kill each other too. so they're crabs. most crip gangs dont like ROLLIN' 60 CRIP; a diss, NAPPS. before CRABS, the diss to crips was called E-Ricket because crips started in EAST LOS ANGELES, a gang called EASTCOAST CRIP, 1-9-0. crips would go around makin' noise, skippin' around and sayin' cuh every other second. so what bloods usually do with their words, they replace the "C" with a "B" but back then they replace the "C" with an "E" to represent EASTCOAST CRIPS. E-RICKET(EASTCOAST CRICKETS).
Hopefully this clarifies things a little.
