Insurance WTF

It’s not like there was a person sitting in their cubicle who couldn’t wait for
you to add a car or make some other change to your policy so they could screw
you. Some shlub operator typed the numbers into their little terminal emulator
and the policy issuance system puked out a rate based on all of the factors that
the company uses to asses its risk.

Nope. Not like that at all. They just simply have their system set up so the customer gets blindsided. Its more profitable to take the worse credit rating (now that they can use credit ratings, it wasn't until recently that the regulators allowed this, wonder whos pockets are full, now.) than it would be to take the credit rating that seems to make more sense. There was no need to run my credit at the time, I was already established with the company, I was just adding another indvidual and their vehicle.

I’m not sure what you mean by statistics being “bunk”. How the hell can you call an entire field of mathematics bunk? It’s math and like 2+2=4 and the fact that your are a dolt it is not subject to interpretation. It is impossible for it to be bunk. You can argue that the use of statistics is sometimes inappropriate but that is another subject. Statistical data is the only way for insurance companies to determine the risk of insuring anything. You may think that using someone’s credit rating as part of this calculation is unfair to you but I assure you that there is real data that supports the assumption that someone with poor credit represents a higher risk. In your case your credit rating may not increase the risk to insure you but then your underwriter can’t hang out with you for a couple years to make sure that is the case. They have to come up with a number based on some quantitative standards.

Mathematics is 2+2=4.

Statistics is "Based on a random sampling of 200 chimpanzees, we've concluded that 2+2 must equal 6"
That is why staticstics is bunk. It has no reflection on reality and can be manipulated to fit someone's agenda.

I know it’s kind of beside the main subject but when did one’s credit rating become such a integral part of their feeling of self worth? Why is it insulting that people are talking about your poor credit? I don’t think that it is just you because a lot of people seem to feel this way it’s just strange to me.

For me, it stems from constantly being told that my credit is bad because I cannot manage my money, which was not the case... "You cant manage your money" translates into "You're a horrible irresponsible person"

• Okay I didn't really understand what you were trying to say in that first paragraph but I guess the point was just that you don't think they should use an individual’s credit score in their assessment of risk. Again, and this is the last time I will say it, based on an enormous amount of data a low credit score represents a higher risk for automobile insurance. I understand that in your case this may not be true but the insurance company is not your mom so how would they know that your case is special. I would be much more upset if they gave you a lower rate than me because you gave some sob story about being laid off and I just admitted to being lazy. That is not “fair” as you put it.

I assume that your brilliant statistical formula there was an attempt at humor. The sample of primates could obviously not affect the result of 2+2 but you could derive other data from your sample. You could for example conclude that larger chimpanzees tend to get more she-monkey ass at the local watering hole than do the smaller ones. So if I was a female chimp and I didn’t want to get corn-holed I would get a drink when the big guy wasn’t around. You may also conclude that people who call statistics bunk are less intelligent than your representative sample. Obviously statistics can be and often are misused but again it is in the application not the math. I’m assuming that you have the same opinion on spelling...I think its bunk too.

As to the whole credit thing I guess you are right. Its strange how much the perception of credit has changed just since I have been aware of such things. I think you are being a little overly dramatic with the “horrible irresponsible person” comment but maybe that is your perception and not the companies with whom you do business.

Mike R. - what steps are in place with wife #2 [or is it actually higher? I know of two.] to prevent her from draining your savings again?

Here I thought richard was asking about insuring two wives at once. ;)

Dear Shitfucking Assmongler,

I've told you twice already to fuck off, and this is your third
strike. Every post you've made at TDWTF has been a complete waste
of everyone's time. You do nothing but sling your self-rightous
bullshit around and do everything you can to insult whoever you can
see. Instead of arguing your point intelligently, you throw
around pointless insults at any small error in peoples' posts, almost
never actually replying to the meat of their post. Try doing
something constructive with your life instead of uselessly bringing
down others on a fucking internet forum. You are a
complete waste of carbon and oxygen and I hope you die painfully.

Fuck off,

What, praytell pepetuated this post and why on this thread? Why not on
the original thread he posted the alleged BS? Obviously you're pissed.
I just want to know why this thread
gets your post. You could have chosen from any of the half a dozen or
so threads he's participating on and you choose this one to blow off at
him. Why?

Pleeeeeease won't someone let this thread die peacefully. It was only
my misguided attempt at complaining about something that happened to me
that I thought was a WTF....

I've been wanting to tell him something to that effect for the past few
weeks because I've read about 20 or 30 annoying posts of his in a very
short span of time. Most of his posts are just there to annoy people.

But you said it much better than I could have. Thank you!!!
