@Gąska You might get lucky and find a project that both pays well and is interesting too. That's usually accompanied by working with people you respect…
You might also win enough money in the lottery that you never have to work again. The probabilities are similar for both.

@loopback0 Lambs to the slaughter.

I've been working at a project where there are lots of people with less than 2 years of experience. there is a high turnover among the younglings, and they all keep saying that it really can't be this bad everywhere. And I keep telling them that this place is about average on the frustration and chaos, and that they can do a lot worse. They always give me an incredulous stare when I say that.

They're all too young for most of you
They look 17 but are really 29?

It is a misdemeanour in most states to disillusion younglings.

Yes, absolutely. It should be a felony.

That would be hilarious. Going to jail for telling a kid there's no 🎅.

It kind of depends on how you work I guess. I find that most of the enjoyment I get from programming is helping people solve stuff and seeing the light bulb light up in their brain. Couple that with the fact that usually the zone makes me have tunnel vision, and context switching helps me pay attention, and something like this seems like a decent enough idea.
The problem is that not everyone is like that.

In my childhood hometown it is illegal, punishable by a fine of up to two thousand dollars and up to 40 hours of community service..... for a moose to have sex with a statue.
-
@Vixen Where's a moose going to get $2000?

/shrug
i'm more curious why that particular fine structure was assessed, like.... what sort of community service would you expect it to perform?
-
@jinpa I know it sounds weird, but it's important to reexamine what you're doing every once in a while to make sure what you're doing isn't dumb, and context switching helps with that in my case.

Feeding the hungry? Though it can only do that once...

If it's the right kind of moose, and it's the right time of year... "moose cheese".

And what punishment does it get for biting someone's sister?
-
@Mason_Wheeler Depends on how, where and if said sister agreed to the biting

also how old the moose and the sister were at the time of the biting.

Some places might classify that as psychological abuse.
. . .
No comment concerning its quantifiability. And no guesses on whether they try to prosecute the "real world" for it as well.
