Sexy Sock Puppet Master List
-
Sockpuppets are awesome, but they are even better when everyone can use them.
If you make a sockpuppet, or own one of the accounts listed below, please contribute!

1 Using addresses at mailinator.com and safetymail.info doesn't work - perhaps Discourse auto-blocks them. However, mailtothis.com works.
PS. No, Nagesh isn't going on this list until proven guilty!
-
I am mildly surprised @Discourse isn't actually a real thing set up by Them That Were Here But Now Are Not, because I can totally imagine them having such an account.
-
Jeff be jelly bro.
Are we still blocked from posting links to this forum from the official meta forums?
-
I don't know, but I'd really rather not give them any more ideas to inflict upon the hapless users.
-
Enumerating @PJH’s sockpuppets will probably take a long time. I wonder if they are still countable...

I've posted at least one link today. It's still there (though it does link back to a post by Jeff):

Don't forget @nagesh and @codinghorror
-
Between @codinghorror and @codlnghorror, who is the sockpuppet?

I wasn't aware there was a block. I know they stopped auto-oneboxing a while back however.

The ones starting
PJH
certainly are...

Feel free to wikify this topic. :) And then if nobody else beats me to it, I'll add one of my own.
-
I am a sockpuppet.... I don't know if I'm the sockpuppet.
-
I wonder if the non latin unicode thing that gmail fixed is a bug in discourse.
-
Welp, the space age forum doesn't allow unicode usernames. So much for unicode posts for them foreign users eh?
-
You can put unicode in your long name.
-
I am a sockpuppet.... I don't know if I'm the sockpuppet.
Tony the Pony is the sockpuppet.
-
I've added one to get started. However, this topic is still visible to logged-out users so perhaps there's a way to restrict that?
-

Same here, I would have expected at least the product name to be unavailable as username.

True, but who would want a username like JürgenZ, SørenÅ or LeLégendaireJaques anyway?

Or Ƭ̵̬̊ (source).

Because you can create an account that copies another person's name by mixing lower case cryllic with standard ASCII. Visually most fonts make no distinction but because its a different unicode char it passes validation.
-
Yeah. Pretty much this. If you wanted to make a list of additional characters that were considered distinct enough to be 'username-safe' you'd have to do it manually. Not even unicode normalization would be able to solve this inherently human issue.

...I really hope this list was generated by some kind of tool and not manually typed out.
Addendum: knowing phpBB, it was probably extended manually each time someone exploited a new confusable character.

Which is precisely why I would not want a username to contain unicode. Sorry, my post will have given the impression that I would support unicode in usernames - that was unintentional, I do not.

If Jeff did it, both could be true.
-
Indeed! Perhaps we should check to see if he's written a blog article about how Unicode is difficult to handle, and that we should stop using it.
Oh... and then Font-Awesome would stop working.

No. that's Joel. I know they both start with a J, but they can't have too much in common, Shirley?

FWIW SMF doesn't actually care beyond stripping invisible characters from the name, on the basis that admins can ban people who try it...

Assuming they notice, I guess.

That's a very convenient reference.
-
Oh, the odds are that someone doing it deliberately is probably there is cause trouble and will likely be banned once they start doing so.
-
It's such a shame that I can't register as @Miriam on most forums.

Looks confusable enough to me...

How...how does anyone tell the difference??
-
With a hex editor?
-
By learning Balinese?
-
Could "windu" be the Balinese word for zero? I'm interested enough to investigate on that.
-
Wasn't he the dude from Pulp Fiction pretending to be a Jedi?

-
TRWTF is I'm not on the list.
-
My avatar is not showing! Why is this?
-
Discoursistency.
-
I have a broken image link on the left but an avatar on the right where it shows in reply to.
-
Yes, yes, that's Discourse's idea of consistency for you.
-
My avatar is not showing! Why is this?
Be patient. It will start showing up in more places.
-
And at random intervals.
-
I think it makes all the different size pictures at its leisure.

You should use vBulletin or phpBB. Avatars work there.
