I'm done with mobile chrome because the web is unuseable without an adblocker these days

Even well recognized news sites are eventually serving ads that open that fake antivirus scam without even a back or close button. Fuck this, it's just mobile firefox with adblock now for me.
-
I've been using Brave on mobile for a while now, and it works great.
-
I must not visit enough news sites, but Edge has been great for me personally.
-
I've also been using noscript on mobile and it seems to make things a little better.
-
I'm tempted, but so much of my stuff is in the google ecosystem (including passwords, bookmarks, etc) that switching has serious costs. Especially if stuff I do on mobile isn't synced to my other 5 machines.

I use Firefox Focus on mobile, works pretty well in my experience since I never log into any sites on mobile anyway. But I'm not the best person to ask because I hardly use mobile devices.

That's your problem. Almost all news sites belong to groups that were bottom-feeding scum long before the either the internet or (electronic) computers were invented.

The problem with adblockers is that they're either too taxing on mobile (my phone anyway) or need root. Firefox is slow, haven't tried Brave though. I'd like to stick with either Chrome or Firefox because I don't have to remember passwords in either and I can also share my web history on PC.

If you don't use a VPN, then you can install DNS66 from the F-droid store. it'll give you systemwide adblocking by adding itself as a VPN and blocking requests in its domain blacklist.
