Data recovery from dead Lumia
-
My dad's Lumia has finally given up on life - with an "unable to find bootable option" error. Now, neither of us really cares about this little piece of shit, but there are a few phone numbers there that we haven't backed up. Is there any chance to retrieve them? I Tried Nokia Software Recovery Tool, but it doesn't detect the phone; I wanted to try Windows Device Recovery Tool, but it has no option other than nuking everything. Any other options?

Did he have an MS account signed in on it? If so the contacts are normally backed up to Live.com.
-
@coldandtired nope.
-
@gąska Take the SIM card to a phone shop and see if the numbers are stored on it? I have no idea if modern phones even do that anymore, but it used to work back in the day.
-
@blakeyrat that was the first thing my dad did, but not everything was backed to SIM.
-
@gąska To my knowledge, contacts go on the SIM or a Microsoft account. I don't know how you COULD get them elsewhere.
-
JTAG?

Internal memory?

Will check this out.

What, he used a non-onenote note-taking app to save numbers in?
-
@magus I'm pretty sure he didn't have MS account on that phone. Though if it's impossible, maybe there's a chance he'll remember the login.
-
@gąska I would definitely double check... its hard to even USE windows phone without one, but the options for saving contacts typically dont include the filesystem.

Regarding data recovery part, since WinPhone8/10 have BitLocker enabled by default and no UI to turn it off, if it can't boot and there's no backup, the data is likely to be lost forever.
