My aunt is coming to visit me in a few weeks, and she's voluntarily taking the train, because the train is the point for this vacation. She's taking the Empire Builder, and wanted to stop by my place to say hi. Now that she's retired, she's finally able to indulge her travel bug. (I talked her into staying a couple of nights, and I'm mildly kicking myself for not insisting on 3-4 nights. She has a horrible fear of inconveniencing anyone, so she kept trying to argue down to one night.)
But yes, I've looked at trains for travel, and they're a terrible idea for me. And I have a 2-year-old; if she can't handle the train after 10 hours, then I get to suffer a long time before it's over. Even if my daughter screams for the entire 3-hour flight, it's better than being locked on a train with her for 30 hours. (Okay, you get more freedom of movement on a train than on a plane, but it's still pretty limiting.)
