I've added one to get started. However, this topic is still visible to logged-out users so perhaps there's a way to restrict that?

RE: Procurement also has it's WTF moments
Sounds like the waterfall budgeting model.
Also, never mind that company X went out of business 2 months ago. The money must be paid to them anyway!

Does your host automatically maintain and update the PHP installation for you?

It's OK. You can fall back on blaming both Wordpress and PHP and you'll still be right.

Yes, I really, really wish more programs just used native window controls. Especially Microsoft! No, I'm not using Windows 8, so don't style Office or Visual Studio like Windows 8.
Sometimes these apps will, of course, freeze. When that happens, the window contents fade a little and the system renders a default window border and window controls around it. It actually looks better.

RE: Well, *how* senior?
Well, we could work around that issue by making a plugin. It rewrites the Like button so that instead of liking a post, it replies to it with "+1" and submits.

I love the fact that the first reply is the stereotypical FOSS response.

RE: Find and Replace, by way of Ctrl+F, Ctrl+V
If all the different div layers were represented by different tones, we could hear what Discourse sounds like. Probably more like a discord.

Pagination? Allow me to introduce you to infini-3D-scroll (patent pending so Jeff can't use it)
“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...”
There actually is a max render distance for this view, and this thread exceeded it.

Sexy Sock Puppet Master List
Sockpuppets are awesome, but they are even better when everyone can use them.
If you make a sockpuppet, or own one of the accounts listed below, please contribute!

RE: Close.js
Yes, that's also true. I knew this, but the context of close.js was actually brought to me by another developer who is making an internal app for their company, and has been given stupid requirements that boil down to a completely different set of WTFs.
-
RE: Close.js
Also, have you seen the close.js source code? It’s a browser bug.
That's why I made this thread.
the OS manages the app lifecycle automatically
Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I like to handle these things myself...
(unless of course your app leaks memory, or do not free unused resources when the OS requests it)
...for precisely this reason. If Windows managed things this way, then I'd have to restart my computer every time a badly written program fouled up.
-
RE: Find and Replace, by way of Ctrl+F, Ctrl+V
Scrolling up and down is obviously doing it wrong but I think left to right isn't taking the paradigm shift far enough. I'd personally like to see X- and Y-axis scrolling phased out in favour of using the Z-axis.
Firefox has you covered.
-
RE: Close.js
I prefer UI consistency myself.
We can have both control and consistency! The reason why it exists is a bug, obviously. It’s jokingly presented as a way to close an app by making it crash, but has not legitimate use.
Well, as you can see from the StackOverflow answers, making an app exit is as simple as writingexit(0)
in XCode. However, Apple guidelines forbid app makers from using it (You're Doing It Wrong). I'm assuming there are plenty of products out there to wrap a website in an iOS 'app' but because the result has to be accepted by the app store, they are probably not allowed to create a JS API method to call XCode'sexit
function. -
Close.js
Continuing the discussion from The evil ideas thread:
Close.js
With close.js, you can close an iOS web app right from javascript! Just use the closewebapp() function.
function closewebapp() { document.write("<section id=\"sectionndjfrjvbjreiajjzkf\"></section>"); document.write("<style>"); document.write("#sectionndjfrjvbjreiajjzkf {"); document.write(" height: -webkit-calc(0% + 0px);"); document.write(" -webkit-transition: height 1s ease-in;"); document.write(" z-index:-999;"); document.write("}"); document.write("</style>") }
Edit: fixed syntax highlighting
So, apparently the reason why this exists is this.
Apple... Come on... We're not fucking babies. Sometimes we want to have some control over our devices. I wasn't dreaming of touching an iOS device before, but now I'll keep extra distance.

RE: Why is XHTML bad?
I really badly wanted to cling onto XHTML forever when I saw that the W3C had finally tried to fix up the web and make it properly structured. However, I have to concede that HTML5, along with its CSS3 and JS API friends, have actually improved the web, despite still being crappy SGML. It's a bit sad, really. I would have liked to see XHTML 2.0 look like HTML5.

RE: Not sure which is TRWTF - Me or IIS web.config
So... Match
{SERVER_PORT_SECURE} = 1
and match{SERVER_PORT_SECURE} = 0
... so redirect everything? Sounds like a WTF to me. And why use{SERVER_PORT_SECURE}
over{HTTPS}
? -
RE: Not sure which is TRWTF - Me or IIS web.config
Hmm.... Seems to be playing nice at the moment. How about I leave it as it is on a Friday and see if I get any support calls over the weekend!

RE: Dont need no loops
Damn... Looks like it supports stuff like JavaScript, Java, C, CS and so on, but nothing like VB or VisualBasic. You could just mark it as
css
to render most of it in blue. -
RE: Dont need no loops
And Discourse being unable syntax highlight VB is now the next wtf.
Does addingVB
after the ``` help? -
RE: Not sure which is TRWTF - Me or IIS web.config
Well, glad I'm not alone with this! I've tried to rewrite this logic in a few ways, but yeah... I've had a canonical www domain rule up for ages with no issues, so I'm perplexed.
-
Not sure which is TRWTF - Me or IIS web.config
Here's what I want to do: If anyone accesses our site using HTTP, redirect to HTTPS. If they access us using any host name other than
www.domain.co.uk
then redirect to that.I have the following rules in web.config on our live site:
<rule name="HTTPS Only" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localhost$" negate="true" /> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^(?:\d+\.){3}\d+$" negate="true" /> <add input="{HTTPS}" pattern="off" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://www.domain.co.uk/{R:1}" appendQueryString="true" /> </rule> <rule name="Canonical Host HTTPS" enabled="true" stopProcessing="true"> <match url="(.*)" /> <conditions logicalGrouping="MatchAll" trackAllCaptures="false"> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^(?:www|testing)\.domain\.co\.uk$" negate="true" /> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^localhost$" negate="true" /> <add input="{HTTP_HOST}" pattern="^(?:\d+\.){3}\d+$" negate="true" /> </conditions> <action type="Redirect" url="https://www.domain.co.uk/{R:1}" appendQueryString="true" /> </rule>
When I upload it, everything works as expected, both from the browser and through using Network Tools to check the headers. Then, some time later (around 10 minutes), accessing
https://www.domain.co.uk
results in an infinite redirect loop! Network Tools confirms this as well.I thought I had made a mistake and had made various changes over the last few days, each time believing I'd fixed it. Then it would break again. Today, just out of spite, I merely uploaded the exact same web.config to the live site without any changes, and it works! And then, after around 10 minutes, it stops working again! I can reproduce it every time!
Have I found a bug in IIS or am I dong it wrong? As a side-note, sessions last for hours, so I don't think that's anything to do with it.

RE: Unsetting an unset variable

How much of a WTF is vBulletin 5?
Continuing the discussion from Unsetting an unset variable:
And also enough XSS vulnerabilities to make Discourse look like an iron curtain.
Then again, Community Server still takes the biscuit.
A website I know is planning on moving from phpBB to vB 5. Upon testing their demo build, I have already found 3 bugs, and as shown above, even one of the most recent releases contained a number of XSS vulnerabilities. As well as that, vB5 still doesn't have a migration feature, so our old posts can't be moved over.If vB was a free open-source project, then I'd go meh. But this is a commercial product, and this bullshit is unacceptable. What should I convince them to use instead? I can't believe I'm saying this, but Discourse is a viable alternative.
