What the fucking hell!? You're trying to make a joke out of 9-11!? What kind of asshole are you?!
We all know it's a conspiracy anyways! Bush let it happen because he hates black people! And he wanted to fight Iraq because papa! And everybody knows that jet fuel fires of a few thousand degrees would not weaken metal! Illuminati!!!!11eleven▲▲
I find it amusing that GIT is apparently now a derogatory term
I've actually worked with a few women, and they have mostly been brilliant (thankfully, my company is pretty good about getting rid of incompetent people fairly fast). I've also worked with the type akin to "He laughed at the word dongle; he's an evil misogynist and needs to be fired!" At one previous job, I was in the boss's office, and this woman was standing by the door to ask the boss a question. Another employee came in the door, and the door knob hit her in the ass (of which I witnessed). He was fired later that day for sexual harassment (this was not as a software developer, it was actually a much more male dominated job).
Point is, complaining about the things you supposedly aren't allowed to do because of your gender, and then using your gender to discredit/harm someone else makes you pretty hypocritical. I agree with @boomzilla and @ChiefJusticeRoberts here; unfair advantages are just as damaging as unfair disadvantages.
mechanical engineer or civil (construction) engineer … don't care about bit shifts or decimal floating point issue with processers
That is ab-so-fucking-lutely scary. Engineers of any kind should be WAY concerned with the inaccuracies of floating point math in programs.
We need more proof... like a picture of him standing next his goat with a shoe on his head.

Another topic revived by the power of suggested topic necromancy! Plus, we really, really need this feature. Don't you agree @presidentsdaughter?
I have to use it from time to time myself

I never did get what the deal was with that show. To me, It was mildly amusing at best.

Are you sexist against men? You assume because women aren't prominent it can't be efficient?
Does it matter how the coconuts are distributed from the bags? Should we optimize to have more or less coconuts at the end? What if a swallow drops another coconut in your bag?
Has anyone mentioned to @blakeyrat that @codinghorror included vim controls for discourse?
But they're not paying for a plan to offer them free guns to murder with (and by the way, GUNS != MURDER).
The difference is the employees are choosing to buy the morning after pill, versus the company being forced to pay for the morning after pill. Pretty obvious distinction to me.
I hate fresh installs that don't have vim
by default. vi
is so.... lacking.
Wait wait! How about @presidentsdaughter! Just joined! Too funny not to

@Maciejasjmj said:Are you deliberately oblivious? If you're purely a welfare recipient, you're not a stakeholder in the country. You're not supporting it, and therefore have no right to dictate what happens. Why not just cut straight to the chase and say that if you're not in the 1% or didn't have parents, grandparents and great-grandparents who were also 1%ers then you shouldn't have any right to control anything of what happens?
If Obama's policies continue, they might be one and the same anyways...
Why is it anytime someone mentions that maybe we pay out too much welfare, keeping the people down instead of helping them up, the argument has to turn to something about 1 percenters or fat white republicans? Doesn't even make sense in the context...
It would exclude me from voting, but I also think that maybe the Starship Troopers idea of only veterans being able to vote would work as well. Who better to decide the fate of the country than someone willing to lay their life on the line for it?
In other words, if most people's wealth is under average, and you start redistributing wealth, most people will get richer.
And lazier, and more demanding, and more of a drain on the productive members of society...
It warns you for 2 days before the reboot on the lock/login screen. If you don't want the automatic reboot, simply set WU to only warn you about the updates, then update when it's convenient to you
Why is automatic reboot even a thing? As annoying as it is, a nag window at least won't lose the changes in whatever document: might be editing...
Linux may have a ton of its own issues, but updating is the one place I feel it is worlds ahead
Wasn't that his original claim to fame? Or was that just Spolsky?
Ah, so we're down to definitions again
I think it's less to do with definition, and more to do with reality vs. theory - sure, in theory, the ideal of socialism sounds great, but it robs the people of any benefit of effort, and since people have different opinions and ideals, they will not all subscribe to the idea that risking their life walking the beams at a skyscraper construction site or racking their brains all day discovering how to make electric cars viable, and get the same benefit out of it as the person sitting on their ass all day answering phones. So, in reality, socialism means having a large overbearing government forcing the people to do it, which attracts creates the power hungry and greedy types that take advantage of running that government.
Okay, that makes sense, and I can concede on that. Dumb arguments make both sides look bad all too often.
Like Harry Reid complaining that this decision came from five white guys... (I still swear the left brings race into it more than the right). I guess Clarence Thomas isn't black enough, like Herman Cain.
I agree with Ann Coulter.
Rush Limbaugh knows what he is talking about.
Glenn Beck makes sense.
Obama is a terrible president, and it has nothing to do with skin color or alleged religious choices.
Glenn.... Beck...Was this a joke post intentionally I am guessing? Surely... right?
It's kind of like a litmus test, based on what people pull out of it.
Choose Ann Coulter, and they probably hate men.
Choose Rush Limbaugh, and they probably think conservative = racist
Choose Glenn Beck, and they are probably atheists that hate religion.
Choose the Obama issue, and they just believe whatever cnn/msnbc/Huffington Post tells them to.
What's wrong with the summary button under the first post? Give it a shot on this very topic.http://what.thedailywtf.com/t/misandry-is-real/1092?filter=summary
Or, move to top (home key, click title, or use progress bar) then click the button manually.
One weakness of summary is that it tends to favor earlier posts which naturally have more likes, replies, views, read time, incoming/outgoing links, etc. I've talked with @eviltrout about weighting the bottom of the topic more to compensate.
The summary button is probably great in other forums. Especially if you make the tweak as you mention.
I'm one of those that likes infinite scrolling, and will openly admit that discourse is a dramatic improvement over CS. But the summary button, along with the lack of nested quoting, the loss of formatting when quoting, and articles not being able to be expanded in an article topic are a few of the things that fit poorly here.
Being here at work, I only have access to lynx through Cygwin and my phone, and both display that way here. I would imagine that on my laptop, where the terminal emulator on linux is more sane, it works fine. But I thought the messed up version helped illustrate @ben_lubar's post - I didn't realize that every character was non ascii until I saw that.
Clarity into the insanity that is @ben_lubar, I suppose
If piling on the love is part of the plan, why in hell's name do you limit it to 50 likes per day for a user to make by default?
A limit that small does kind of imply more like spewing or oozing love instead of piling. A slow dribble on a few people here and there
A certain political party would completely disappear from power if that happened.
And the country would be saved!

This thread is a great representation of how when someone who disagrees with a liberal is automatically labeled as intolerant while at the same time said liberal refuses to tolerate your viewpoint. I get into arguments often with liberals when I call them out on their intolerance (e.g. Herman Cain isn't black enough), and once cornered they resort to name calling and accusations of hate and dismiss me as "rich white republican".

I actually read in a Wired article a quote of some programmer asking why they didn't just use Ruby - and I threw up a little in my mouth.
Given that this is a written medium, it's hard to tell sometimes, which is why there there is a discussion about sarcasm tags, irony punctuation, etc., going on in Discourse and our reaction to it. Starts at around post 412
See? if you program in Swift, you can program ironically. Perfect for all those Apple fanboi hipsters.
I've run into this problem at school myself. I always make sure to test both ways now to be sure
But then you are still admitting you may have created life - and taking direct action to stop that life is the issue of belief here.
Sure, they do that sort of thing all the time. The Constitution is a living document. It should move with the times.
That case is Super Duper precedent.
