So I just got off my first skype meeting with my new side-job and the skype app was about to make me scream.
There were periods where every time a stretched my finger over to press something on the screen, the screen would go black and unresponsive. Pull finger away, screen comes back. Try to press something again, screen turns off again.
I couldn't even mute the mic to scream without them hearing me 'cause the motherfucking screen kept turning off.
And then it would start working again. And then act up again for no apparent reason.
And then the team manager called me back right after the meeting for a one-on-one followup and I couldn't hit the accept call button 'cause of the same bullshit.
I also just noticed that chrome in my brand new virtual machine has all my saved passwords. So chrome now uploads all my passwords to Google? Was that something I missed in the EULA? (because, of course, I didn't read it, but I mean, come on).
And when I open a chrome window (and there were no others open), it automatically opens two pages: http://previouscompany.communications.net and http://itservice.previouscompany.com. Which the machine I used at my previous job was configured to automatically open when starting the browser. So chrome decided they should appear when I open a browser window on any machine? Because I checked my personal email on that machine like once? How does that even work?! What the fuck is this shit!?>!
So I've tried to keep all my shit separate the past couple of years - multiple emails for personal, freelancing, whatever. But even that is painful. Which email do i use for my github profile, for instance? I use that profile for personal and freelancing work. I don't want to make two, cause then my e-peen* won't appear all on the same page. So anything that I do on github related to freelancing, which I should hear about on my freelancing email, gets sent to my personal email.
*My github profile has helped me get work more than once, so I think this is a valid concern.
There's no way to win.
Can't have a single identity - things get all mixed up.
Can't have multiple identities - everything keeps trying to join you back together half-assedly.
Technology has gone from slow and obtuse to lightning fast and incredibly obnoxious auto-helpful.
