Our WordPress website's control panel has no less than 13 warning or info messages from plugins in every page.
It's not my job to maintain it though so I definitely won't touch them.
SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT: our server somehow caught malware.
Boss' proposed solution: "install some antivirus in it"
"Our building burned down."
"Reduce the thermostat temperature."

RE: :fa_bullhorn: The sound of AN ANNOUNCEMENT BEING MADE (or: Request for Comments: Comments)
The final migration step will happen starting at 11:00 EST on 2016-03-19.
It is expected to take less than 4 hours. During this time, the front page and the forum will be inaccessible or read-only. After the process is complete, the forum will be running NodeBB and the front page will have its own commenting system separate from the forum.

Ayup...I guess I forgot that votes were in the

module.Well that's why they renamed it, because it was a , right?
They renamed all their translation strings, too.
Well, yay for improvements, right?
Have they started building a RDMS-compatible schema so we can use
normalreal databases again? From IRC a few days ago: https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/core/write-operations-atomicity/#transaction-like-semantics
Turns out MongoDB does have transactions, but they're not atomic.
In other news, I have this ice cream made entirely of warm grass clippings.

This is another case of "Apple does it and nobody cares, but when Microsoft does it suddenly there's gnashing and wailing".
Fun fact: under Apple app store rules, an app like Firefox, Edge, or Chrome must be labeled as "for adults only" due to the fact that they have the ability to visit the internet, which contains porn.
Which means that by Apple's own rules, iOS devices come with a porn app pre-installed.

@anonymous234 It's also an arms race between the makers of DRM and the hackers who want to break it. Thing is, innocent consumers are getting caught in the crossfire.
I still think Gabe Newell's method is the best. Don't make it harder to steal the game. Make it easier to buy it legitimately.
Just like how you don't need to be faster than a lion to escape it. You just need to be faster than your friend.
And that's how Gabe Newell got eaten by a lion.

Couldn't we just use the entire forum for senselessly bashing random companies? It's not like we need a separate category for each company. This one's just here for legacy reasons.

@ben_lubar There is no context in which that statement would make sense. It might be true, but it still wouldn't make sense.
There exists a context where it makes sense, but the existence of that context does not make sense.
There exists a context where it parses as a valid and true statement, but it still does not make sense.
As a Dwarf Fortress player, I am well-versed in things that make sense in a context that should not exist.

Let's put it this way: I reported a bug that someone PM'd to me and the admins yesterday and they fixed it before I could write a snarky comment as a response to that PM.

FUCKING HELL WHY DOES NVIDIA UNINSTALL MY DRIVER WHEN I LEAVE MY COMPUTER RUNNING
So I figured out the cause of the problem. NVIDIA uninstalls my graphics driver if I leave my computer running for a while.
Then it asks me if I want to update my driver to the version it just uninstalled.

I can't understand why they don't kill this idiot likes thread.
Because 99.99% of the time (since the move to NodeBB), it causes no issues.
Permanently removing the Likes thread would be like seeing that the unit tests are all red and then deleting the unit tests.

I think Amazon really wants me to sign up for Prime...
Amazon has a weird concept of "hey, this user probably wants to buy this other thing" where someone who buys a replacement toilet seat is probably a toilet seat enthusiast and someone who buys parts to build a computer definitely wants two or three more processors.

Back in my pascal days I used 3 spaces for indentation.
I used to do 3 spaces (well, tab set to 3) when I first started. Somewhere down the line I changed that to 4. Probably because of existing code with spaces instead of tabs.
I want an editor that lets me set tabs to 3.5 spaces wide so I can make people who mix spaces and tabs angry at me.
