Hardly the silliest crypto scheme I've seen.

@Medinoc Yes, that's an april fools. But we don't have an april fools joke collection thread and it fit here.

I'd actually just decided to create one as well but you beat me to it.

While ambitious, I have a feeling that any such interpretations of Tolkien's work would be tarnished by the new author. Perhaps bordering on fanfiction, the kind of which you might see penned by maidenless basement-dwellers.

Would that be more or less tarnished than the screenplay of the "original series"?

Meanwhile on Stack Overflow...
They announced the release of "FILTERS for stack overflow" with this meme-filled blog post:
Meanwhile some people are complaining that one of the filters ("3D glasses") makes them physically ill:
I have no idea why.

I have no idea why.
That's their own fault for not wearing the old-fashioned red-green 3d glasses with it.

I just tried and it still looks trippy. The +150 does seem to float a bit though.

Yeah, I was "lucky" to have caught that one.

Debatable. In general, though, such reimaginations are a risky endeavor and any who want to attempt it should put these foolish ambitions to rest.

Wait, so, 's new status isn't some kind of April Fools joke?
No, he decided to leave the website and was worried he wouldn't have enough self control to stay away, so he requested the ban.

I guess people interested in machining videos have already seen it. To those new to the genre, he's using a very unconventional technique here, because normally you keep your hands far away from the workpiece:

@JBert I'd seen it show up in my subscription list, but I hadn't actually watched it, yet.

I actually think Ron Gilbert pulled the best one.
Basically announcing on 1st April, on a day he regularly points out he doesn't do jokes, that he's coming back to make the third canonical game in the series he created - after thirty years.
And then

The other one I liked was Heardle - it's another inspired-by-Wordle game, only this time the gimmick is to identify the song by its intro. You're given 6 guesses and up to the first 16 seconds of a song to identify it.
April 1st was Never Gonna Give You Up.

@Arantor
My best Name That Tune exploit was at a church youth group event. They were doing it in a "quizzing" style format - three people sitting up front ready to guess, when you thought you knew you would jump from your chair, they'd stop the music and you'd guess. If you were wrong, you were out.First song that came on, I identified within 1 second of starting to play. Well, I jumped after one second, but they took like 5 seconds to actually see that I had jumped and stop it.
That said, it only got me one additional note: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wc_0ii3SLp0

@izzion Some years back, we were at a missions conference (where a bunch of missionaries from all over the western USA would get together for several days of fellowship, encouragement, and general updates), and during one of the mealtimes or free times where people were just standing around talking to each other, they had the pianist play a number of songs for background music. After some time, they asked for people's attention and asked who noticed which songs they had selected.
Now, to explain a little bit first, there's a certain style that many church pianists play traditional hymns, with full chords, arpeggios, grace notes, and other flourishes, and all the songs had been in this style. Most people had expected something like "Rock of Ages" or "Amazing Grace" or "Blessed Assurance" or "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God", and I think there some guesses along those lines. Then my mom (a church pianist) raised her hand and offered the names of some kids' songs like "Old MacDonald", "London Bridge", and "Rock-a-Bye Baby".
She was right, and was the only person who wasn't in on it who had noticed the song choices.

@Boner I wanted to upvote this, but I think this should go in the Evil Ideas Thread instead.
