"Mark Unread" doesn't
-
I tried to mark a topic as unread using the "Mark Unread" button at the top, and got a toaster saying it was successful. However, when I see the topic on the topic list, the link to it still takes me to the last post I read in that topic.
-
So... you expect the "Mark Unread" button to.... reset your position to the top of the thread?
-
@Tsaukpaetra yeah..."unread" is separate from "last read."
-
@Tsaukpaetra Yeah, like it would be if it was a brand new topic that I hadn't read. Otherwise, what's the point?

It could be useful if you were in the middle of a big thread. Then it would still show up in unread if no one else posted from it. I assume.

I use it to allow myself to eject from a topic and return to /unread while allowing me to know I'm not finished reading it.
Unless you mean to say that entering a topic should remove it from the /unread list and move your position to the last post?

That is a good point; I actually made a userscript to handle that situation. I also don't use the "Unread" tab, mostly because "not read all the way" doesn't count as unread.
But if that's the intended use then the button should be accessible when you're in the middle of the thread, shouldn't it?

No, not at all. I like the last post position being the last read post. But I also want a feature where you can reset a topic entirely (in this case it's the Deadlock Empire one) so that the next time you enter it, you get the first post.

Yes, that entire toolbar should be sticky, but it's not and I would complain about that too.

Yes, a way to intentionally set your last-read position earlier would be fantastic and would resolve my upvoting reason. But that has also not been done, so everyone gets free reputation!
