I think it was done by an idiot. He's no longer with the company.

I hope everyone is ok. Luckily I've never had to call 999 for an emergency.
-
The only time I've had to dial 911 was when my car had a blow-out on a super-busy freeway. I felt bad about it also because it wasn't really an emergency at all (I know how to change to my spare, but it was a super busy freeway).
Anyway, I just looked up what number to dial to get Washington State Incident Response (the guys in the pickup trucks with the flashing lights who help clear disabled vehicles)-- turns out their website says call 911. So I guess they don't have a dedicated number for that. Huh. Live and learn. I guess I did the right thing after all.

Yeah, and it's apparently cheaper too I discovered last night.
It was going to be like $140 to tow my dad's truck 1/4 mile back to the house (steering mechanism exploded or something, not a good thing to have happen when you're turning into traffic), but because the cops called them it was only $15.
-
Well in my case I just wanted the flashing lights to keep the cars going 70 away from me while I was putting on the emergency spare.
The incident response guy put on the lights then basically took over and said, "here, lemme get that tire for you" and did the whole deal. He was super nice and competent. I do not mind my tax money going towards those guys. In fact, we should just replace the horrible Seattle Police Department with the IRT guys.

A perfectly reasonable desire. In my situation people were still trying to shove their way around as we were manhandling the car back onto a side street.
As a side note, it is massively difficult to steer a 3/4 ton pickup with no steering (and no, I'm not talking about just power steering, we are currently able to spin the wheel like a record and the wheels don't turn).

It seems to be a logical impossibility.

Didn't stop my dad from trying!Things he had us try:
- Jack up the front wheel (singular, we had only one jack) and try turning it.
-This didn't work because the wheels just turned right back as soon as we started pushing - Jack up the whole thing from the front and try turning it that way
-Didn't work because (duh) 3/4 ton truck doesn't just get pushed around on a jack (even if said jack has wheels) - Laterally pull the truck using straps attached to my truck.
-My truck is a tiny Toyota Taco, never stood a chance.

Every time I hear that, even all these years after the model was introduced, I think to myself: has anybody working for Toyota ever been to Tacoma???
-
ever been to Tacoma
No, but I'm told that it would perform better in climate conditions present in that particular city.
Edit: That's not to say I work for Toyota though.

The only climate condition in Tacoma is "concrete". I'm pretty sure in that shitty city even the sky is made of concrete.
Except the Narrows Bridge(s) is pretty cool.

concrete
Exactly. No off-roading for my vehicle, keep inside the dotted lines.
I'm just wondering why it gets worse gas milage than my '96 Nissan by almost 28%. It's lower horsepower, same size engine (roughly), and it has a Computer!

Some of spend $2/mo or so so the insurance pays for the tow.

Yeah, he's really kicking himself on that now. Had to get transported twice in as many months.
